Shit yes sorry I switched over to NFL brain.
Our last women’s golf coach left for Wake
Why are the military academies good at football but terrible at basketball?
Ima go with height restrictions. Unless you are David Robinson.
Edit: if you want to take NIL dollars and NBA prospects over a manadatory tour in regions of international conflict, I will concede.
Football is closer to classic military strategy?
Not sure about Indiana in that elite group
My argument for IU is the cult like following. If someone from IU stock became an elite HC I think they’d want to coach IU and see IU as the final destination. Can probably be said about a number of places, but I think it’s especially true about those schools I mentioned
If so, dusty May could have taken Louisville and kept IU as an option. It’s going to be harder for him to make that move from an in conference rivals Michigan.
Especially with Ellison investing in Michigan sports. At least in football and soon to be basketball.
Great call Karl
He’s great in my book.
Does his wife care about basketball? Thought she only cared about football.
May’s buyout isn’t that bad at Michigan… I do wonder if Indiana will be knocking on his door in a few months asking if he’s sure.
The cult-like following is a bit of double-edged sword. Translates into resource benefits but also a short leash.
Give Fork union Post grad a few years and they will produce. That’s my old coach from college and he’s solid at recruiting and X’s / O’s
Edit: Damn, that article is from December 2015? It was my immediate thought when I saw the question. Thought I read it maybe 2 years ago at most.
I’m old enough to remember when folks were worried that if Leitao did well at UVA, he would get poached by UConn lol.
I posted this on another board but is Grant McCasland a viable candidate?
He has won at multiple levels and has Texas Tech #11 in Kenpom in year 2. He’s known as an elite defensive coach but has coached really good offenses too. Reputation for talent evaluation and development. In his 40s. Current salary is only $2.9M. Slow paced, defensive-first, talent development philosophy. Described as “Mr. Rogers off the court and Bob Knight on the court” in terms of his nice guy personality + competitive drive.
Seems like Bennett v2 in a lot of ways, but perhaps with more offensive flexibility. And his teams are great offensive rebounders, for what its worth.
He’s spent his entire career in Texas and Arkansas. But UVA’s ceiling has to be higher than Texas Tech given our resoruces, the fact that there are 2 bigger (SEC) programs in Texas than Tech, and the overall difficulty of winning in the new Big 12.
Current salary is low cause new hire but i imagine texas tech has more than enough money to keep him. Also a baylor alum
I was one of those people! Worry is strong and I never wrote it on a message board.
Now, in true Dylan My Backapges style, I’m young enough to type out all my dumb thoughts.
Sure he’s a Texas guy but he’s recruiting to Lubbock against 2 in-state schools with bigger brands and SEC resources (it’s like Tony recruiting to Pullman vs UW and Gonzaga if Gonzaga had unlimited resources).
He’s really the archetype of what I’d like to see in a coach: Successful at multiple levels; Sort of Tony but with more offensive prowess and modern roster management; Young and upcoming. Would love if he was gettable. I have no idea how realistic he is though…
