šŸ€ Next Basketball Head Coach Speculation Thread

His resume is amazing but someone on here said something along the lines of there are rumblings of him being a really bad person and not really being hireable. If that’s not true, he’d be my number 1 candidate.

Feel like it’s inevitable until he gets involved in basketball

Considering no one knew his wife even existed or that he was married again, I’m not sure anyone really knows what she’s interested in supporting.

@CavTex has first had knowledge on him. Does not treat people well. Tex may have said something like Leitao-like in the way he treats people. Or at least that’s the rep he earned in short order in Lubbock.

From what I’ve read about McCasland it seems like he won’t leave for any job other than Texas or Baylor. Really wants to stay in that state.

Serious question: When did it become a requirement that a UVA coach had to be a saint? Some of the best coaches in the history of college sports were assholes, but should it really matter?

Bronco, JJ, and Leito were no saints

I don’t think it’s a requirement per se, but Tony showed you can have the best of both. And in an era where other programs were vacating titles while we were ascending, I think it became more of a point of emphasis (I.e. good and great).

Gotcha - agree on cult factor for IU

Yep @KarlHess. First impressions mean a lot. His first impression in Lubbock was not stellar. Spoke to ā€œdonorā€ who stated the same thing. Pretty egotistical and has a bit of the short man’s syndrome. Also he will probably be at TT for a long time. He was a GA there, met his wife there, she played soccer i believe. Loves Lubbock, I know that’s hard to imagine right @StLouHoo ?

No one said anything about being a saint. Just don’t be a bad human being. Paying a bad human being $5M+ per year is a big risk as bad people will do bad things. Them doing bad things can put the program at risk.

Some would argue the founder of UVA was a bad human being. Coach basketball and don’t be a felon idc if you jaywalk.

I liked watching our team more because it was run by a good human. Sports are sentimental to a lot of fans.

As others have said, it’s not a requirement, but a semblance of character matters to a lot of fans. It’s fun to watch guys who have fun playing together.

I think a lot of fans underestimate the draw of the greater Charlottesville/Albemarle area for a coach, particularly one with kids. Still a great place to live and raise a family. For the right coach, this reason would supersede all the reasons listed above.

Semi OT but Maryland just got a $10M anonymous donation for basketball. That’s what I’m talking about when I’m talking about ā€œgood jobs.ā€ Nobody is writing a $10M check for Ohio State basketball.

VCU about to take a loss to Saint Louis. Really rough shooting night for the Rams, they’re 4-27 from 3.

What just happened with the SLU fan there? Anyone see that?
