šŸ€ Next Basketball Head Coach Speculation Thread

I’ve had some Dear John letters that said the exact same thing.

how dare you.

Can’t tell if the hint here is that we are indeed able to buy out Byington or if Byington’s buy out is a hurdle we won’t cross.

I feel like Calhoun and Byington are very similar basketball philosophy wise even if their schemes are different. Byington the obvious instate advantages but if we can’t afford Byington, Calhoun is the obvious choice in that regard.

Yeah Louisville ran a matchup zone during their championship years didn’t they? I think not being rigid is the only constant I would prefer in a new coach. Recruit to your offense, and then build out the defense based on what you see once they’re on grounds.

Feel like the NO CAPEL is my hill to die on so every time someone mentions that clown I’m gonna post how terrible of a hire it would be.

That loser DOOKIE should never be in JPJ more than once a season.

Would be a a pathetic hire.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

I tried to talk myself into it the other day but fuck Duke

I’m pro hills to die on. Hills have a view. My hill to die on is we need someone who’s teams have a history of playing scrappy as hell (hence my affinity for Kim English, even though I acknowledge that’s not gonna happen). I think that’s what defines a ā€œteam you can lose withā€ as a fan, a group that goes out and leaves it all on the floor even in a loss. I don’t want Buzz but watch his team, they play so hard every night. Fires me up.

Pitt hired a new AD in October too. New guy came from Tennessee so he’s not beholden to Capel.

Capel did manage to get an extension out through 29-30 from the prior AD in July. So he’s got a little leverage. But he must not feel too comfortable for all the noise coming from his direction.

Not when you die saluting smartly and charging up hill, looking at the regiment occupying the high ground and mowing down your unit — and you.

True I’m more pro dying atop a hill so maybe I’m showing my ass. Revenge of the Sith teaches us all the dangers of hills

I want a coach who inspires his team so much that even when it’s clear they’re going to lose, their family members start a brawl in the crowd that delays the game by ten minutes.

Don’t know if this guy has been mentioned above but what do we know about George Mason coach Tony Skinn? Former GMU player had a decent first year coaching last season with a 20-12 record and has his team leading the Atlantic 10 this season.

I’d think Maryland would have better options than a mid-major coach with 2 years of experience. 3 if they do it next year.

Also, in my mind I always thought Capel grew up in Virginia because I associated his dad with ODU, but after actually looking at the timeline, dad didn’t take the ODU job until after son went to Duke. Little brother did go to HS in Virginia before going to UNC I guess.

So I very much get this, but have DC/VA panned out in line with their rankings in recent years? I have no idea - I haven’t actually looked at it - but feels like so many have disappointed. Like there aren’t that many I wish we’d actually pursued and landed. But might be no different than anywhere else and I could be remembering wrong.

Jason was at Virginia basketball camp in summer 1993. Maybe they had just moved when Coach Capel got the ODU job

How do I know? Because I drove Jason somewhere to get him a fan for his camp dorm room, cause I am nice

I had an A/C unit in Tuttle because of my bad-ass pollen allergies.
