Quitters will receive the same fate and punishment as the blasphemers. Like Job was tested, and JC was tempted in the wilderness, Ronites are being tested and those who hold on and stay the course will be rewarded.
All others shall suffer.

Could someone just drop by and check on @BDragon, make sure he’s hydrated
You have admitted fault and have therefore exposed yourself as an inferior person. Shame on you for not doubling down.
Maybe we will do some ceremony at the Wake game
This is an excellent point, StLou.
Both and. I always want UVA to win. Picking one over the other seems so defeatist.
Ronites will meet the same fate as Sodom and Gomorrah–destroyed for their wickedness.
Would agree that it’s tougher to evaluate without the data points, but it’s still probably more about the guy (and the budget and the school).
Look at Nate Oats. No P5 experience and crushed it. Budget helped, also a good coach/recruiter and it translated. Kelsey doing well in Year 1 thanks to the war chest.
Someone like McMahon who crushed at Murray State, now struggling hard at LSU. Will see what renewed budget looks like.
I do like the datapoints though. Agree that Odom lacks them compared to other candidates who may have had longer tenured success at another stop or significant AHC experience at a P5 prior to their mid major tenure like Hodgson or Devries or…Ron (ducks).
What’s our competition for coaches looking like? So far I’ve got us, Miami, FSU, Indiana for sure. Maybe Iowa, Syracuse, BC, Oklahoma, Villanova. Keep an eye out on LSU and Arizona State. Who am I missing from the power conferences?
UNC if Hubie misses the dance?
I think BC will be smart and realize (a) this is the wrong year for them to jump into a crowded pool and (b) recognize that Grant is the least of their problems and anyone else they hire will stink it up too.
LSU is keeping their guy, story about him staying and them increasing NIL came out the other day.
UNC, Nova, and Michigan if Indiana hires May are my biggest competitive concerns in the market. (I think Hubie gets one more year, just barely)
West Virginia if DeVries gets poached somewhere.
If rumors are true that we’ve zeroed in on a “riser” then I’m not concerned right now competing against other current open jobs as we’re the best of the stack - other than maybe Indiana, which I think is is a different candidate pool. The exception being Byington and then maybe it’s more of a hope that he prioritizes regional ties and our fanbase to everything else that Indiana offers but really think he’s a long shot either way at this point,
For the potential open jobs, we’ve hopefully wrapped up our candidate and avoided the carousel by taking them off the market early. Something that seems embedded in the rumored strategy we’re taking (which makes sense, as Carla probably wants to avoid what happened with football - although that’s not totally a direct comp).
With Nova we’re probably only really competing with them for Shaka. Which again seems like a total longshot for both programs. Although if Nova pulled it off and we end up with a lesser name, would cause a lot of clammering and what-ifs here at LRA.
Agree about BC, but Grant is in year 4 with not a whole lot of momentum moving forward.
Forgot about the Mike Young retirement rumors. I think Steve Forbes is safe even if he doesn’t make the tournament, but who knows. Rick Barnes and Tom Izzo are 70. Forgot about Wes Miller. UF closed the investigation on Todd Golden. Mike White is probably OK. Kelvin Sampson’s son is taking his job whenever. Ben Johnson at Minnesota should be OK. NC State is stuck with Keatts. Chris Collins has been at Northwestern for 12 years?!? I like Steve Pikiell, but he should be doing better. Lamont Paris is having a rough season. Craig Smith is uninspiring.
And potential openings at places where coaches go elsewhere like Michigan or WVU.
Still, our direct competition should probably be Villanova, Indiana (or Michigan if May leaves), UNC if they move on. I think UNC, IU/UMich are better jobs than ours. Tennessee and Michigan State too. Villanova and Iowa are about equal to us. And just below us is Miami and Cuse. Below them is Rutgers, FSU, Wake, ASU, Cincinnati. Then WVU, VT, BC.
Can you walk me through how Iowa is a job on par with us? I feel like we’re on that Michigan/Indiana tier tbh (with Mich above and Indiana below)
It’s not. Iowa’s NIL situation for basketball is dire, they’ve needed facility upgrades for years and they’re not in a region as rich in talent as ours. Main thing they have going for them over us is being in the B1G instead of the ACC but unless we’re talking about a candidate like McCollum or DeVries who just want to be in that state then I think we’re clearly the better job.
Just an off the cuff comment. I had Iowa in that Miami tier, but changed my mind right before posting. They have the B10 money, there were a few good years with Luka Garza? I don’t know much about the program otherwise, so if they’re below us that’s fine. Not all that important anyway.
Iowa itself isnt the most attractive job but a lot of these good coaches had the misfortune of being born in Iowa and are therefore trauma bonded to the state
Or they got the hell out of there and never want to go back. Iowa City sucks.
