I do think it would be foolish to completely exclude all other options and things change with time.

It has to be Odom no? UVA ties great coach winning culture

That’s how I currently feel but I have no idea what the powers may be feel

Odom is the ā€œdon’t get cuteā€ hire, but we’ve got an administration that may tend to overthink things in the service of ā€œthings have to be done different at UVA.ā€

FWIW, the Norlander / Parrish pod said this:

ā€œThat was a great game, VCU. Good on you. Ryan Odom doing a lot of good stuff there.

Not trying to push them away from your Rams, VCU alumni. But he understandably will be a very, very illogical candidate to be the next coach at Virginia. We’ll see if it winds up going that way or not.ā€

I think it was GP, who said it. Not reporting and not really news, just more evidence that Odom is the CW candidate. Also I assume that should be ā€œlogicalā€ not illogical.

I’d say the odds are >50% we get cute somehow.

That’s the thing, we fans think we’ve narrowed it down based off of like 3 random third-hand rumors, but ā€œthe fieldā€ is massive… gotta put a high % on it being someone not on the ā€œLRA short listā€

I just want this to be over. Starting to be less fun and more nerve-racking.

Agreed. Lots of smoke around Pitino being a strong candidate/he thinking he is a favorite when the rumor mill was spitting out ā€œwe’ve centered on 1 lead candidateā€ and ā€œits not Odomā€.

I’d put Pitino at 50%, Odom at 35%, field at 15%.

Buckle in. I think we conservatively have another 4 weeks or so of this

If it’s Odom, how many times do we expect to see UMBC highlights during a UVA game next year?

I think we might have a really good idea as soon as 2 weeks from now, but we do typically keep things pretty quiet until its ready to go.

Gotta give the Hoo fans what they want.

Bring Doughty out of retirement to ask whatever player is on the dais if he was aware that Odom was the coach when UVa lost to UMBC.

It’ll be super annoying, but we’ll get through it together. (If it happens). Or we’ll just snipe at each other like we usually do

completely agree with the sentiment that the admin may feel it has to get ā€˜cute’. Search has been going on too long and it may feel that it has turn heads or catch people off guard with the hire. I’d probably put money on an out of nowhere weird poach hire (a la Mendenhall in 2016) or a young riser with a lower floor but potentially higher ceiling. Sad if this ends up being the case cause Odom is a fine coach. I think he would be a strong hire for 95% of D1 programs, and an even better hire for us (i.e excellent) due to his ties to the program and familiarity with the region and conference.

I must have missed this cycle of the rumor mill.

If we go with Pitino Jr and he ends up being Dave Leito 2.0 (who was able to land McDonald’s all Americans), then every mention of Carla Williams in the UVA history books will need to be scrubbed.

The forgotten era.

Still have a weirdly confident feeling that if Littlepage was AD he would hire Fred Hoiberg. Like Tony and Bronco, established power 5 coach who has had strong history but coming off a meh year (Tony 17-15, Bronco with BYU on the downward trend)

Why do you call the current power conference coaches retreads (with the negative connotation that goes along with it)? I thought that terminology referred to one time power conference coaches who got fired and are now coaching at a lower level or the NBA or as an assistant somewhere or not coaching at all. Like Pitino. He’s actually the textbook definition of a retread coaching hire except he’s not that old. And Dick Bennett when he went to WSU. Or Jeff Capel to Pitt.
