Just curious why do you think Odom, if all things equal (compensation wise), would prefer WF over UVA?

If we wait on him for other candidates then I could see Wake trying to snag him quickly. They might have competition with Nova though.

If we genuinely want Odom and view him as a top option I’d be surprised if he chose Wake over us. I understand there’s sentimental value with his dad but we’re just straight up a better job.

I just feel like Odom should wait out for UVA. Wake is going to be fucked in conference realignment and might be left off worse than VCU

Could be wrong but believe it was @kendall making that point pregame. Does Odom want to coach in his dad’s shadow? With the big whistle, that is.

Not saying he does. We may have just made him more expensive for ourselves.

It’s like my girlfriend says: https://youtu.be/U-2u5jIfjxo?si=H3WS7NhHBEqns1ue

This^

Also, there’s similar if not equal sentimental value with us I’d imagine.

It must be cold there in his shadow

That reminds me. I haven’t seen that super annoying RIBer who sounded like a relative of Ron’s in some days. I have him on ignore anyway, but I haven’t seen any ignored posts either. Hope I don’t ever see any more.

Lol I’m sure they will come in and respond to 100 posts at once after a few days off

He probably moved to an Auburn message board where he’d be more comfortable.

PJ Hall says hi. Also he’s had some continuity with the core of his roster being together for several years (Schefflin, Hunter bro’s, etc).

Does Rhodes lack of success at Penn State after arguably having more success at VCU than Odom’s had give you any pause about Odom?

I don’t think it affects anything in my thinking since PSU is an awful basketball program, but maybe I’m not considering something. Also seems to indicate that Shrewsberry is a genius for both succeeding at Penn State and knowing to leave.

I think we like to see trends but at the end of the day each coach is an inherently unique situation.

Looking over the years on Kenpom, Rhoades never had VCU as high as Odom has them now. And A lot of terrible offenses sub 100.

Even in Rhoades best year at VCU, they were 42nd in Kenpom and 177 ranked offense.

Did he have more success? In year #1 for Rhoades, VCU went 18-15 (9-9) and didn’t make the NIT. In year #1 of Odom, VCU went 24-14 (11-7) and made the NIT quarterfinals. In year #2 for Rhoades, VCU went 25-8 (16-2) and lost in the first round of the NCAAs. In year #2 of Odom, VCU is 23-5 (13-2). Looks like for year #1, Odom’s VCU team was clearly better while the jury’s still out on year #2, although they look pretty comparable at this point in time. After years 1-2, Rhoades made the NCAAs 2/4 seasons, but, obviously, there’s no comparison point for Odom.

Yea it’s certainly hard to compare results when you’re comparing pre and post transfer portal but efficiency is the best way to go. And the metrics suggest Odom is much better than Rhodes. Also, and this doesn’t matter a ton, but VCUs supporters believe strongly that Odom is much better than Rhodes and have felt that from the day he was hired. That communicates the ā€œeye testā€ part of it as obviously VCU fans have been watching all the games thus far. Eye test is important as you can often just straight up see when a team is really well coached. And VCU under Odom looks really well coached

Welcome back! You’re right, I’m not sure if Rhodes had better results than Odom, so I used the arguably caveat. Odom’s first season was better. Second season likely better on the metrics or at least close to even. Rhodes had 4 very solid seasons after that. And it’s hard to compare Odom’s first season with Rhodes last and probably best season due to all the turnover from year to year. But perhaps something to ponder.

Odom has one quad 1 win in 2 chances this year - how do we know how good they are when they play real teams?

Because things like Torvik and ken pom take into account strength of schedule, the eye test, how they perform vs the spread, etc. etc.

Seriously, the eye test is huge. Everyone on this forum is at the very least a die hard UVA fan if not a die hard college basketball fan. Y’all know what good teams look like. Watch VCUs next game and tell me that doesn’t look like a P4 team playing in a mid major conference.
