Seton Hall has a high density of guys whose names I randomly know:
- The Gus Bus
- Garwey Dual (aka the Dai Dai Puncher)
- Zion Harmon
- Scotty Middleton (former HS foe of Ryan Dunn for one year)
- Prince Aligbe
They are a rock fight team this year.

Yeah I said that and then looked at their team for the year and was shocked. They have a 2020 UVA level offense.
Based on VCUās scoring output that half, Odom seems like a clear shoe-in for the job.
When are we going to start talking about Bill Old?!
Based on shulgaās haircut Iād say we can cross Ryan Odom off the list.
Thanks for your first post glass bottle 3/4 empty but our next and now Head Coach is Ron and or Jason
It is ok to be wrong since @WFS_HOO hasnt posted one right thing yet
Get involved here! Fun stuff
Who do you want November 22nd (based on your preferences and also your belief of who is most realistic).
Overreacting to the loss right now, but the worse this gets, the more I think it has to be a big get. If we look like we just did against Tennessee all season, I think Iām going to really need a Shaka level guy coming in to feel okay about the program.
I voted Huss. Heās 1A on my list and Wes Miller is 1B.
Odom might be a safer pick than either of those guys, but I think the potential reward with Huss or Miller is much higher and Iād be willing to take the risk.
Otz is a pipe dream and I see Smart as highly unlikey. He walked away from a good situation once and it didnāt work out so well for him. I donāt see him doing it again.
@Bigwhoo Other: Who you got?
Odom would be a good choice, if he got some high quality guards and wings to play in his system I think it would translate to P5 play. His VCU team this season has plenty of athleticism but theyāre too streaky from deep, Iād be interested to see what he could do with a higher level of talent.
With that being said though, if Shaka is a realistic option then it should be Shaka. I wonāt be disappointed if heās not, but again hope we do our due dilligence there. Also not fully out on Ron yet even if I think this season has kinda set him up for failure.
Really depends on where the growth in this team comes from.
They are still relatively new playing with eachother so there is room for chemistry growth. And getting rotations down defensively will cause some incremental improvement. But the lack of playmakers is still too glaring to overcome.
I just want to see Shaka turn Bliss and Gertrude into Kolek and Jones 2.0 and also find a way to keep Cofie (and bring Al Amadou and Adrien Stevens with him)
I donāt believe Shakaās a realistic target. Heās got what he needs to win at Marquette and he grew up in Wisconsin. Iād love if we could get him though.
Iām OK with Odom. I think heād be successful here. Not Tony level of success, but good enough to keep most fans happy for years.
Iām stanning Kyle Smith though. I know heās less realistic than some other guys, but I just like the way he coaches and I think he can win anywhere.
I think this team ends up being just ok, which probably wonāt be good enough for Ron to keep his job. Again itās a team that was meant to be on a two year plan in the first year of the plan, there was always going to be growing pains. Tony maybe gets this team in the tourney if he sticks it out.
With that being said Iām also skeptical about the Xās and Oās, even though itās still very early in the season. I donāt think Ron is bad at that portion, Iād wager to say heās probably decent enough given that Tony considered him his right hand man. But thereās just not anything so far that makes me go āWow we gotta keep this guyā. The offense looks better than last year, but thatās not saying much at all, itās pretty much just your basic 4 out/CBS offense with ok ball movement and streaky shooting. Heās hamstrung by the lack of playmakers but weāre also not really generating a lot of open looks inside off cuts or difficult to defend actions. And the defense is just the Tony packline with less discipline.
I kinda agree with some on here that in order for us to get an accurate view of how Ron would do heād need to get at least 2-3 years, but heās not gonna be afforded that and personally I donāt blame Carla for going along with that. I want the ability for our athletic department to do a national search and come out with the candidate they deem the best fit.
The main things going for us are that Marquette is also going through a major transition in their admin positions (they recently named a new university president after their previous one died, and their sitting AD is retiring), which could be an incentive for Shaka to want to move on if he had relationships with the prior people in charge. Also the rumor about him viewing the UVA job as a dream job, which could be true or may be different now. And of course that UVA as a basketball program has more at its disposal than Marquette does, not that Marquette is the toughest place to win but we certainly have a higher ceiling than they do.
This is all just playing devilās advocate, I donāt think he leaves but there could be reason why he wants to make a change right now. And Iām definitely gonna keep justifying it in my head up until the day we announce somebody else as our coach lol.
That was ugly. Had a few flashbacks from some stinkers in the past. They are better than us, tougher than us, and have a coach who was nominated for the HOF last year.
Next game is VERY important. How do we respond and what adjustments do we make? Now that every team we play will use this as a blueprint, how do we generate offense if IMac is taken out of the game?
Big night tonight for the Hoos.
How the hell is Mark Byington not on your list? That should be the list. Mark if not Ron. The end. Get back to me if Ronās out and Mark says no.
I think heās been super underrated in these discussions. Weāre a better job than Vandy and he is a (Salem!) Virginia guy. He should be a notch ahead of Odom after Shaka and Otz (who we wonāt get but should still try for).
Iām a little biased because I played against him in high school so naturally kept track of him all these years, but I think Byingtonās a star.
He came up under really good coaches. Played for Jerry Wainwright at UNCW then coached under him. Later under Bobby Cremins at the end of his careerā¦actually was the interim coach at Charleston when Cremins retired, youngest HC in the country at the time. Took the Georgia Southern job built that up, then came in and kicked ass at JMU. Now at Vandy, built a solid portal roster, doing well early. Heās learned, grown, at the top of his game and still only 48. Totally embraces the new environment.
VA native, state player of the year back in his day. Even has a UVA degree from a stint on Gillenās staff.
I just wonder if 1) he would want to leave the SEC for an ACC position and 2) would he leave Vandy after 1 year.
