2014-2019 isnāt a fair comparison for any program in this era. Look at football. Parity is a real thing in the portal/NIL era.
Itās my understanding Rick Carlisle is building a house in Farmington. I would imagine he will be involved in the program in some capacity moving forward. Would obviously be a huge asset.
I like Moserās results.
Iām coming around on Moser. Iām a bit concerned about his ability to recruit in this area but hat may be overstated in the new era.
Moser just needs a competitive bag. Looks like a hard ass winner to me
Maybe not for us, but I wonder if Chris Holtmann is gonna pick up some interest from teams. Heās got DePaul looking not terrible, which is an accomplishment in and of itself, and Ohio State still owes him a lot of money, so a buyout of his DePaul contract might end up being offset some by that. His Ohio St time ended disappointingly, but I think his full body of work suggests that heās a good coach.
Or I guess he and Thad Matta can keep swapping jobs for the rest of time.
Am still in wait and see mode with Moser. Oklahoma started out 13-1 last season and then ended up missing the tourney, they look good so far but Big 12 play could change that up very quickly.
I think Holt is a good coach for a lower tier P5 but heās not the guy to get you from good to great (IMO)
To be fair they also picked up several ranked wins in the slaughterhouse big 12 and should have probably been in the tournament over us
Fair. Heās like the Midwest Brad Brownell.
Fact still remains that things kinda spiraled out for them in the end.
Again I like Moser but thereās definitely some things about his tenure that concern me. A 20-34 record in conference play at OU is scary.
Weāll see! We had a lot of resources in the pre-TB years too and we see how that worked out.
And thatās if they donāt keep Ron which unfortunately with the uncertainty around the athletic department is a very real and scary thing.
There goes the neighborhood! Kidding if course. Thats fantastic
So heās essentially Chris Mooney.
Hard. Pass.
Pretty sure youāre using ātheyā because the next coach could be a he or a she.
Ha.
I think it worked out great! We made a couple of hires that didnāt work out. But instead of crippling the program we were able to hire a coach of the year who then won us a national title.
So it sounds like we will be in good shape regardless of whether this hire works out or not.
I mean we just got lucky but okay! TB could have been Kevin Keatts or Brad Brownell but we got lucky that he wasnāt!
Hereās to more successful years of making the tournament (almost) every year and being at the top of the ACC.
Here is Moserās time at Oklahoma with Kruger before him. Heās mostly kept the ship steadied as a top 25-50 program year over year. The covid years and transfer portal make all of this noisy, but itās good to see heās managed stability over his tenure.
Hereās Moserās coaching history overall. Heās improved most places heās gone, except for Oklahoma where heās kept them pretty stable.
My take is he is a very good coach and would put us squarely in the top 4-6 of the ACC year over year (noting that ACC is down). But itās hard to really tell what his ceiling is. That depends on how much you think his final four run: 1) led to his subsequent success at Loyola, 2) was flukey.
This season will be instructive.
Would we be okay with Moserās results 3 years in? I donāt think I would be. And I donāt think thereās much of a reason to think he would have better results at UVA than at OU. He seems to have a good team this yeas so maybe he has figured it out but heās not very high on my list. He has lost nearly twice the amount of games Tony had in his career. Sure I know some of those were at tough jobs and might not be relevant, but 287 losses is a ton. I just have a hard time getting over that.
And I actually really liked him going to OU and thought heād build a top 10 program but once he struggled there it opened my eyes such that I realized his resume isnāt as good as most assume.
I just donāt understand how some are so high on Moser but donāt get excited about Wes Miller.
