šŸ™„ No Holds Barred Thread - A Haney/DavetheWave Production

Iā€™m all in for that idea. Letā€™s make it happen

My initial reaction to the slap fight proposal was ā€œsure the ratings would be great and thatā€™s kinda the problemā€. But after a bit more consideration, the Oscars are already a mess/cash grab.

Iā€™m for a published set of lists with categories like:
-Movies to see because theyā€™re well made and youā€™ll learn/feel something important
-Movies to see because theyā€™re well made and fun
-Actors whoā€™s rate should go up because they proved they have chops
-Directors who donā€™t get studio notes anymore
-Editing for effect, not just cut counts
-Sound design in a non-war film
-Best picture made under $X

If the point is to drum up interest in the movies themselves, cut all the pomp and just tell people whatā€™s good.

Alsoā€¦ why cant a comedy or action film win best picture? Why is it unwritten it is a drama?

Superbad shoudā€™ve won the year it came out.

Cause Eddie Murphy would have won every year for like 20 years

Pretty sure that was the No Country/There a will Be Blood year. Thats a buzz saw. Caveating that Iā€™ve rewatched Superbad an order of magnitude more than either of those two.

But, your general point is a fair one. The Oscars have a rep to uphold lol.

Okay, but now do Ronā€™s.

Trick question: I think Kevin Ollie won his first year at UConn. What team was he the interim coach for after the massive cheater Calhoun left?

Like 2010 or so?

Nah, 2013. I forgot it was so late. And I forgot they were in our stinking MSG podā€¦ grrrā€¦

Yes. His first season as HC they were inneligible for post season so he had to win it all the next season when they were elligible again

He was Nets interim after the massively overrated Jacques Vaughn was fired at half way mark

Obviously I havenā€™t been paying close attention to the Nets in the past couple years. I thought Ollie was still with overtime elite or something

Wow a natty winner with NBA head coaching experience and grassroots ties? Sounds like he should be priority #1.

Iā€™m not impressed with Ronā€™s either. Nor would I ever consider Sanchez except for the fact that heā€™s been here a long time and was a key part of the staff that built UVA into a championship program. That, and the built in advantages that he already has from coaching this yearā€™s team which could return almost every key contributor.

Donā€™t get me wrong. Thereā€™s a lot of coaches I would take over Ron. Just none of the ones routinely mentioned move the needle at all for me.

Yeah, I hear that. If you donā€™t think the other likely options are that much better then you value the potential stability with Ron moreā€¦ I guess I just disagree on the predicate (that they are better options).

Possibly. If I were guaranteed that every player on this yearā€™s team that we want back would be back, in addition to adding Chance Mallory, Iā€™d would sign up for that.

First and foremost, the leadership at UVA has to decide what they want this program to be. Are they going to be portal heavy - pickup basketball every year with the best roster they can put together every offseason? Or do they still want to be a development/culture type program? TBH, the last few years, UVA has really straddled the line on this one. They need a little more clear-cut identity, imo.

If they want the latter, they need to back the truck up to Marquette WI
