We had a podcast thread back in the day.
Til you closed it ![]()
Edit: nope it was HGN this time

As a Dodgers and Liverpool fan the last 24 hoursā¦. Whew⦠Kershaw gets 3000 strikeouts and then the news of Diogo Jota ⦠a blunt reminder that we arenāt promised tomorrow⦠I am exhorted to be intentional today ā¦.
My son, who is a diehard Liverpool supporter, is going through all the emotions today. The jota news crushed him. But we also got word this morning from Liverpool that based on his performance at a camp last week, heās been invited to spend a week in December training at Liverpool.
He seems to be taking the jota news harder than heās letting himself celebrate the invite. As his dad, Iām proud that heās balancing his emotions and keeping things in perspective.
RIP Diogo
I hope this isnāt like the Arsenal Camp my sons went to last year. They both got identical e-mails that they were selected based on their performance at camp for a week in December to train with Arsenal⦠pay the crazy fee and, oh by the way, pay the chaperoneās way as well.
We talked to several other campers and it appears Arsenal send the e-mail to everyone.
Oh itās a business for them and comes with a fee. Last year they invited 36 boys from across the US to participate, so it was competitive I guess but itās not anything other than a paid experience. We are treating it as a vacation option. And we havenāt decided if we are going.
He would train with LFC academy coaches, play matches against English clubs (maybe the LFC academy teams or maybe not), get all the tours of anfield etc and get tickets to a match at anfield.
Heās excited he got selected. But Iām not under any guise that this is any sort of tryout by the club. Itās an extension of their paid US camps for those that performed well enough in the local versions.
Holy fuck. Thatās one hell of a tragic rollercoaster of a month.
Maybe the funniest thing I have seen in long time
I agree with all these points, unironically, except I was just annoyed with Bennett. I wouldnāt curse him.
His attempts have more than doubled, and nearly tripled, on a per possession basis.
And yes, we are talking about not just the extra shots, but also the potential gravity effects. Maybe we couldāve been a top 150 offense. That wouldāve been much better than 200.
Also he shot 49% FT as a rookie and is 64% this year.
His win share per 48 rate has also more than doubled this year over last.
But Iām sure he hasnāt improved.
I was surprised to see that this thread has 2512 posts.
For authenticity sake, @jazznutUVA can we merge it into one long single post.
Looks like the increase in Dunnās win shares is due to increases from his defensive win shares. Dunnās OWS is basically flat.
Also, I donāt want to make it sound like Iām taking shots at Ryan Dunn. I loved him as a player for us, but I think the idea that a different coach wouldāve made him an offensive threat is misguided.
I tried to close this one last year and I got booed until I reopened it.

With just surfing on vibes not stats, I agree with @haney. Dunn is a better offensive player now and I think he (like many) struggled with blocker-mover + the value every possession/FGA mantra.
Would love to debate Casey Morsell next but instead Iāll present Dailyn Swain.
Heās basically Ryan Dunn in college right? Better offensively, slightly worse defensively.
Sam V has him as first rounder

I think a fair amount of the improvement heās had (which to me seems real, albeit perhaps not dramatic), is just time and reps
The next question is how much is a different system, way of using him, etc. And how much of that couldāve been harnessed by a college coach.
āOffensive threatā was probably never the realistic goal, although thatās a pretty ambiguous term.
I do think itās evident that practicing offense 20% of the time while being told to just worry about defense and rebounding had a negative impact on his ability to contribute offensively, was a visible detriment to his aggression and confidence, and compounded the issues the broader team dealt with opponents knowing that he would never shoot (or look to drive very often, for that matter).
The extent to which Dunn would have improved his contributions on offense under different instruction is debatable (although early season play was much different in his approach and might have been a decent guide) - but I think it would be very hard to argue that the approach we took was the most effective option, which is where most of the dialogue comes from.
