šŸ™„ No Holds Barred Thread - A Haney/DavetheWave Production

Yeah, and worth remembering that while Reece and Kihei had experience playing together it was honestly pretty terrible experience. Yet by the end of the season they were actually doing fine. I’m not enthusiastic about ANOTHER season of those two in the backcourt, but I’m honestly doubtful throwing Clark’s minutes at McNeely would produce better numbers in that spot this coming season.

Edit - It’d probably be better for down the road, but I’m less confident than I’d like to see after seeing what happened to Morsell.

I’ve spilled enough virtual ink on all this already, but the core 6 all had bad on court chemistry and I can’t see more time together changing that. But others disagree. And predicting the future is hard, so I could be wrong.

I also think that last year’s core 6 won’t be next year’s core 6, even without Reneau or the crew of transfers that are being bandied about…

A scenario…
Kids and families are smart … LJ hears Clark is returning. He knows as a PG that restricts and limits what Reece can do this year and how good he’ll look to NBA types. Hence it means there’s a stronger chance Reece returns for year 4. No way LJ beats out a 4th year at PG - and not a great chance he beats out a 2nd year Isaac M, Taine, Dunn for starting guard minutes in 2023-24.
On the other hand he knows how good Reece would be with a real lineup around him and that would cause Reece to blow up this year and open the door for LJ to start at PG year 1. So Clark coming back does affect the decision - regardless of reclass or not.

Repurposing this as an optimism thread (don’t worry, only temporarily).

  • Reece, Shed, plus 2-3 of (Taine + 4 Frosh) plus 1-2 targeted transfers still seems like a final 4 core to me, for 23-24 and maybe 24-25
  • London mostly gave us a clear 24-25 option to extend that window, but that’s pretty far away
  • Don’t get scared away from top 30ish guys just because it didn’t work out with London.
  • UVa has proven it’s a place where really good talent can play for a year or two and then wind up playing very well in the NBA. We shouldn’t shy away from selling that.
  • We WANT kids who want to get paid for playing hoops. Stop pretending otherwise.
  • With apologies to Mr Sabato, being paid for playing hoops is a good thing.

Very very very temporarily. :joy:

This is close but not quite as good as the ā€œGuy didn’t come back because of Clarkā€ line you dropped several months back.

Every issue UVa has is not because of Clark. Maybe one day you’ll realize it but I doubt it.

Happens lots of places where guys can’t pass coaches favorites for playing time… many reasons why a dude becomes a coaches favorite… but don’t act like recruits and transfers and their families and coaches can’t see it.

What a Good day today.

Okay what’s up with the weird buzz for today? I’ve seen multiple posts across these boards and the Sabre. And I don’t think they had to do with Johnson

What do you see on the Sabre? Z teased something yesterday but he’s been teasing for a few weeks about transfer movement so might no be specific to today? Today is Good Friday, maybe Dave is just happy about that

Kihei has made a decision and it’s one dave will like?

Perspective … today reminds me to always have it … sports is entertainment and fun … real hope is more important …

Whe I agree, this is rich coming from someone who consistently shits on a certain player and his usage by the coach…

I find that answer vague and unconvincing.

Usage yes - player no … Love Clark’s effort and try hard mantra …
Difficult for anyone in any job or task to be placed in a position to not optimize said person’s contributions.
None of it is on Clark - who was never designed to be a 36 min a game guy.
By the way - neither was Ty or Guy or Malcolm or London … none of whom approached the sheer minutes per game Clark has had to bear.
Maybe I’m crazy - but don’t think anyone should play more than approx. 32 min game because the effort can’t possibly be there the whole time because of tiredness and potential fouls … if a guy knows he is gonna play that much - he will have to coast at points on one end or the other - whether because he’s tired or because he’s afraid to get in foul trouble. Or both.

Us watching tend to forget the fatigue factor not to mention linger/ nagging injuries etc. Both are an enormous part of the game and longer season
