Nobody has started the crosstown shootout thread yet, @AnonymooseHoo @BDragon , so I guess I have to leave this here.

Nick the Quick is the only one I’d have a chance of recognizing, and he’s on the Hawks staff.

20 Alumni 90 credit hours and 1 degree… looks like sUCks to me.

Also what is the protocol for former coaches who are still coaching at a different program hanging around at their previous program? Feels a little off.

He’s still got the WVU windbreaker. I guess he’s doing the circuit b/c of his HOF induction.

Good eye, didn’t catch the logo at first. Makes sense making the HOF rounds. I mean HuggyBear is problematic, but I’ve always kinda liked him and I can’t explain why.

It’s hard not to when the CBB media and other coaches fawn all over him because he tells the best stories when they all get together at the Final Four

Heh good point. Never put that all together but probably hold some truth for me. Even when he was at UC I kinda liked him although I thought he was an ass. I also feel like he is a tie to quickly fading bygone era of coaching and as I age that makes me nostalgic as well.

The portal / no-sit-out era has hit hard. He doesn’t know what to do with his roster. This year’s is bizarre. He’s got a bunch of JUCO guys and then a guy in Tre Mitchell who’s not known as being a team player. Plus Joe Touissaint.

I think he’s a legit great coach in terms of picking the right style (and he’s adaptable), but does well with a certain type of guy (Jevon Carter), and pushes other guys away. Don’t forget he had Tshiebwe…

This from the Almanac sums it up: ā€œThere’s a story he loves to tell. When he was recruiting Jevon Carter, he strolled
into an AAU gym at 8 a.m., a cup of coffee weaning away last night’s festivities,
only to watch him ball-hawk ball-handlers for 94 feet. He’d never seen Jevon
play before. Carter left the gym that day with his only Division I offer, from West
Virginia. It was a similar story for Daxter Miles, and Tarik Phillip, and so many of
the diamonds Huggins has found in the rough.ā€

Man that story totally nails it. It is also impressive when you think of how flexible he is too. His WVU teams look nothing like his Van Exel teams which didn’t look like his KMart or early 2k teams at UC. He’s a master at find that fringe player and molding them/molding himself to fit them. He’s also always done well in the Juco and portal before there was a portal.

For as flexible as he is, I definitely think he is a my way or the highway type. You play for him and love him or you hate it and hit the portal.

That one wasn’t his fault. If anything his mistake was taking Oscar out of high school

Really? I thought it was, at least a bit. He had that other PF there that he favored (who was also good, but can’t remember the name – looked it up, Culver)

I mean that’s the surface level reason. The real thing was Oscar’s US guardian wanted the bag because it became clear Oscar wasn’t an NBA draft pick. Hugs either had to drop it or let him go.

Ah, interesting. Makes sense post facto…
