I have been scouting high school basketball for a long time.
Jarin Stevenson is a very underrated player.
Most AAU star players promote themselves through individual play.
But Team United forces him to make a lot of sacrifices.
Playing for the team rather than the individual, rather than his strong point of long-forward scoring, made it difficult for him in the center position.
If done wrong, it can make him look like a passive player.
He’s not inferior to his teammates Cam Scott and Jaxon Prunty. He’s not lacking in potential. But Stevenson has a more limited role than them.
A typical example is the 2024Class Isaiah Evans, who transferred to TSF this year from Team United last year. Last year, Evans was a backup roleplayer at Team United. However, since he moved to TSF this year, he has seen a huge share price rise.
If you’ve been disappointed to see Stevenson’s play in Peach Jam, I’d like to say he didn’t even show half of his skills.
I would like to see his junior and senior seasons paying attention.

I want to see 10x the assertiveness he showed in aau play. I assume he gets that opportunity at Seaforth (sp?) with his dad and surrounded by inferior talent. It wasn’t that he was just a role player, he disappeared and there were times were you forgot he was even on the court. And even when he had opportunities he didn’t look comfortable taking advatnage of them.
One play his team needed a bucket and the shotclock was winding down so they give the ball to Jarin in the post being guarded by Kon Knueppel. Jarin took two dribbles, barely moved Kon if it all and then kicked it out which led to a last second missed heave by Cam Scott.
Of course what you said is true, and forwards in general don’t get to show much in AAU. And ive seen clips of him being assertive but nothing Ive seen says he’s a guy you can give the ball to when you need a bucket. He’s a Trey Murphy type for me.

Knueppel hits a bit too much rim for my taste on his shots. Sam was more directly through the bottom of the net. Maybe the nets had yet to be broken in? Hard to say.

Ill add though I will take a Trey Murphy 15 times out of 10 every day and twice on sunday. Still a future NBA player.

Eh I couldn’t disagree more with the assessment.
Granted I only watched a single game (and it wasn’t the one you referenced) but I thought Jarin positioned himself extremely well and had excellent footwork and anticipation / IQ. Offensively he moved very well for someone his size. I think he could take over but his team basically played ISO or ran the break.
Don’t understand the Trey Murphy comp. Very different body types and play style.
I’d go Jabari Smith.
Our offers post Peach Jam along with the 2022 recruiting haul tells me that TB and staff really don’t want 3 point shooting to be a problem for the foreseeable future.

Cosby also locked up dilione. There was a write up where it said Dilione still got his but when Cosby was switched on to him for like 5 possessions straight he made Dilione’s life miserable.
Trevor Keels type guard. Might be taller and a tad bit more explosive but what made Keels a 5 star was his confidence and mentality (which is a huge thing). I like Cosby a lot though

That’s fair. I do agree that Jarin Stevenson is more of a guard/small forward type as @J.Cotton noted and that he doesn’t nearly get to show all his tools since Team United plays him as a center and forwards/center in general suffer from aau guards trying to show out.

Me too. A little slicker with the ball than Malcolm at this stage and better arc on his shot but otherwise does remind me of Malcolm.
I watched Malcolm play 3 or 4 times streamed during his team’s state championship run his senior season. He had a certain air about him, always calm, never seeming to rush, but made the plays when his team needed them.
