OFFER WATCH: Post Live Period/Pre Fall Recruiting Thread

Yeah I don’t get the sense that academic are a huge issue for most of the top-150 kids these days vis a vis UVA. I suspect there are ten or so where it is a problem

It’s funny, my daughter Rose went to a party near the end of school. Mom was like “was there drinking, did you make good decisions?” And Rose said “yeah, a little bit it was pretty tame, all the basketball guys were there.”

“What?”

Rose says the STAB hoops boys are the most rule-following, homework-doing, we’ll behaved teenage boys she’s ever seen. She suspects it’s fear of getting kicked off the team and fear of ruining their future. Curious if that’s more broadly the case or more a STAB thing. Probably varies a bit from kid to kid.

Love this. when I talk to young kids I challenge them to start GOOD peer pressures. Challenge each other to be better etc. It really feeds off of itself

I know one of those STAB basketball players that would be in big trouble if he came off the straight and narrow..

This is great to hear though for real

I have a suspicion that with Dilione, it’s a question of style. He has expressed that he likes VCU’s appeal. If that is the sort of scheme in which he wishes to play, I imagine it would be a waste of time for Virginia to pursue him, rigorously, when there are a number of equally attractive options who are comfortable with Virginia’s systems. Every decision has its opportunity costs. It would be a shame to lose a recruit, who might have committed to UVa, because too much time and attention was directed to a player who was never going to pick Virginia. Additionally, Richmond and Knoxville are very different places than Charlottesville. That said, I have no idea what the staff’s thoughts are on this matter.

Yeah, I mean peer pressure to get good grades and not make stupid decisions as a term (which is when your judgment is at its worst) is a good thing. So the kids have their lives in order, good to college with that baseline set and they’re a little older and more mature. THEN they can start acting up a little since their heads are on a little straighter.

Afaik, the staff spent close to zero time watching Dilione during the last live period, so I don’t think the staff is spending much, if any, time on him.

VCU is yet to record a top-100 offense under Rhoades, and was at #202 last season on Torvik. But I guess he lets them play “with freedom” aka being #341 in TO rate by turning it over on 21% of possessions. Need to get recruits looking at the advanced stats

Hey Fresh what do you mean about Good peer pressures? Do you have an example? I ask because as an adult I try to give some life experience advjce whenever I can to younger kids, which is funny because now I’m “that weird middle aged guy who talks too much”…I remember being on The opposite end of that when talking to my Dads friends lol.

Simple shit. say a junior high or Hs age kid, where things can get tricky, gets into running or working out or whatever sports. Get your friends involved. Like “you Gnar lets go run 2 miles after school today”. Pressure squad to do good things. And it can build that way

My group of friends in Jr High got into bad bad stuff around 8th 9th grade after playing sports etc up to that time. Got to where I just couldnt hang with them anymore but never changed our friendships.

It seems like we completely cooled on him after his official visit, must have realized it was a poor fit then.

Asa Newell with a UVA mention. Seems to be the top 10 kid they will go after for the 2024 class (always seems like there is one top 10 kid they go after every class cause why not. Not much time wasted in a text here or there and building relationships for other future recruits in the same communities).

“I hear from Virginia a good bit, but they haven’t offered yet,” Newell said. “They don’t like to offer just to offer; they like to build relationships with the guys they recruit. I really li

WTF!? Where’s the rest of the quote in the story? They don’t have editors?

Good to see that players understand that Tony really means it when he offers.

“They don’t like to offer just to offer; they like to build relationships with the guys they recruit. I really like that they are wasting my time with that bullshit. I wake up in the morning and see a text from Coach Williford and I’m like “Thanks for wasting my time with that bullshit.” I love it".

“I like reading LRA and understanding from all of the Virginia fans how awful the offense is, how coach Bennett’s failure to include certain players in the rotation is due to his stubbornness and not the lack of talent or skills, and why most talented players would prefer to play at Iowa State. Also, I don’t care about Kihei Clark as he will be gone by the time I reach any college campus or re-hashing how UVA should have won the 2019 championship. Of course, the fact UVA actually won it doesn’t affect the arguments as to how they should have won it better. On the other hand, I particularly enjoy WFS and Galileo24 for their amazing reverse mojo negativism - although in my case the negativism will be more than warranted as UVA is f*cked.”

I doubt they have editors. They’re just churning out content.

I am somewhat amused about the negativism towards Bennett. His record compared to his peers who often outrecruit UVA is amazing and these are the golden years of UVA men’s basketball. There are some nits that I think are reasonable, but there are some folks who work very hard to find reasons to diss pretty much everything he does, almost like they have some agenda.

My biggest negative with him is that we’ll never land another recruit, ever. Other than that I think he’s a Hall of Fame coach.

You can figure it out for yourself. The pattern is consistent.
