Just catching up with this thread. The Chinese place at Lambeth was Hong Kong Restaurant. Took my future wife there on our first date. Wasnât until our fourth time eating there she said she didnât like Chinese food. Besides that a real keeper!
Showed she really liked you if she kept putting up with it.
I took my girlfriend at the time there a few times as she was vegetarian and they had tofu substitutions for every meal. She told me that one time she found a hair in her food and didnât say anything because of how hungry she wasâŠ
Ok, never missing the old fart threat again! Traxx was a huge loss-regular reggae music, Fugazi, Black Crows, Matthew Sweet, and the Connells! Saw the last one this past summer in Winston Salem, was like I was transported back to â91. If only I still could have floppy hair and 90201 style sideburns!
Hong Kong resturant ⊠yes that was it.
The Szechuan beef was my go to. Hot as hell and delicious
Anyone know what is the Traxx replacement? Starr Hill was for a while, I think, but they closed, right? JPJ is too big for regional acts / indie bands.
Downtown amphitheater, the Jefferson and the Southern all get artists that canât fill JPJ.
Cool, thanks. I donât know the latter two, which is why this is the right thread for me.
Star Hill was a sneaky good venue. Load your equipment up those stairs. Always fun.
Outback Lodge was akiller spot too inthe late 90s early 2k. Not sure its around anymore
Saw Drivin N Cryin there back in 99 or so. Think thatâs the only time I was there
Canât think of Starr Hill without that song popping into my head
Nice pull i vaguely remember that from back in the day
Outback Lodge - late 90s I guess. Only went once or twice. Definitely not there anymore.
But if youâre talking live music places that arenât there and werenât within walking distance of the U like upstairs Starr Hill (great spot BTW although I went once), my fav was always the C&O club behind the restaurant. Great room, fun slightly older crowd, good stage, full bar (very important). And there was also Zippers on Main St and sometimes music at Random Row. And I saw Larry Coryell and Emily Remler at Bull Alley of all places.
Two words: Chiang House.
C&O great pull. only went once for a sons of bill anniversary show and it was epic
As many prepare to drive 3 hours to the south, who has sampled Stamey Barbecue? Stameyâs is across the street from the Colosseum. It was a favorite of NCSU fans. One of the highlights of ACC Thursday was to watch 15000 people pour out of the colosseum in search of edible food. (Omg, it is 540 and our game starts at 7 PM).
Even as a Greensboro resident I avoided it.
Have been a couple of times and thought it was pretty good. Not mind blowing, but good enough to go back.
Never tried it during tournament time but did go before the UNCG game in 2016 and didnât have to wait long.
Trax brings me back. Saw some great shows in the late 90s there. But man it always felt like you might catch something fatal if you touched anything there. I swear the owners did not know anything about bleach or cleaning products.
