Getting further afield but speaking of dirty and public utilities but there was a crazy story about water in the Newport News / Norfolk area in the paper several months agoā¦
⦠but apparently itās safe and fine!

Yup, but the 100 year old rusty copper pipes that it travels through in my building⦠not as much.
My BIL was telling about me the NYC drinking water stuff, but I lost him fairly quickly.
In 2010⦠Naples, Italy ran out of landfill space⦠this was the solution as Germany has trash incinerators. Italy has been mired in bureaucracy trying to build them, but it ended up costing Naplesā¦
Yeah, there used to be an old coal and wood co-fired facility just off-grounds. Provided steam for water heaters and radiators.
Similar ones exist in Morgantown (for WVU) and DC (for Georgetown).
Join the EU they say.. itāll be fine they sayā¦
You do not want to get into the EU discussion⦠that would take its own thread for meā¦
Am sure. But would love to hear your take as I have mine as well on certain things. But from a long way away.
Example: Greece being forced to stay in the EU (hot take)
Still exists ā it now uses coal, gas and oil. Definitely a co-fired facility (meaning it can use more than one fuel for multiple uses).
Greece is only forced to stay in the EU because their inflation is so high and they have no way to divorce themselves from the Euro. Unlike the UK who never changed over from the British Pound, removing themselves from the Euro would pretty much destroy Greece. With Greece currently going through austerity votes continuously year-over-year, they would need to balance their budget and lower their inflation to a level that would allow them to exit gracefully.
The major problem I have with the EU is that they tried to model their central bank after the US central bank. There was no way for this to be successful with every EU country still controlling their own budget. Now we have Germany holding the EU above water⦠and they have no way to remove themselves from the Eurozone either.
Thats the symptom in Greece but the real reason, in my opinion, is geo semi political. If Greece went it would be the easiest of targets in lots of ways. Look to the north of Greece even.
Man if you wanna go deep on Fed Reserve read this:
Are you referring to the Macedonia / North Macedonia issue?
Yes and keep going. Germany/ EU needs Greece dependent. Chagrin German citizens tax payers But cant go back now
I blame Merkel. LOL!
Actually agree with @DFresh11 take here. Hadnāt but much thought to it but I get it.
Great read @DFresh11 - been a while, but it was fascinating for sure (calling a nerd alert on myself here)
Interesting shit for sure. You already read it?
Yeah, but it was about 15 years ago now. All the specifics are gone, but I remember the big picture
Back on trackā¦dime time at Sophieās.
