Whatās the thing at UVa that you miss the most that isnāt there anymore?
They tore down my first year dorm (Tuttle), where I liked to study (Alderman Stacks), and where I watched hoops (UHall). I guess of those, Tuttle was pretty ugly architecturally, but it would have been fun to show my wife or my daughter or have a drink in front of during my 50th reunion or whatever.
Wait⦠they tore down Tuttle? Was that where the Treehouse was? WTF??? Iām sad now. ![]()
Yup! Gone since 2011
Last time I went to the E-School Stacks⦠I noticed you have to put a card in the printer to print things out⦠like you were quotaāed and junk! I remember printing out reams of paper without a care in the world!
I can remember on multiple occasions at Cocke Hall (old computer lab), Iād have to print a paper before class and someone was printing the Bible or whatever.
My first ACC tournament was 1973, then 1974 - Elmore versus Burleson. It astounds me to hear adds for ACC tickets on the open market.
Iām starting to get kind of worried about the corner. The death of Little Johnās and more chain businesses moving into some of those spaces doesnāt make me happy.
Michaelās Bistro is the one that probably hurts me the most though. After I was 21, loved to go there for food and some good beers. They also had a mixed drink - the Original Zen I think it was - that tasted exactly like the Capri Sun with a surfer on the front. Alas, so is the way of the world.
Separately, if they ever touch that giant Ginko tree next to the Rotunda, I will riot and burn the place down. Not that I think that will ever happen, but Iām just establishing the stakes for if they ever think about it.
Same for me on Tuttle
Easy one for me. UHall. Second proly The Dell cause you could run into so many people there hoopin or sweat out your Rugby Road Thursday night walking back to Tuttle (also gone as @haney said)
I also had good friends at the Beta house down the way and we spent lotta spring afternoons chillin there before going to Slaughter to work out and hoop then back to Beta for parties
The corner is the biggest lost to me. I still love going and hanging on Elliwood but itās changed so much in the last 10 yrs with a lot of institutions gone.
I am unfamiliar with this establishment⦠it sounds like I should have known about it.
Littlejohns yes!
Mikeās was my classy date late night spot.
Also where we went for early day drinks on Fridayās. Was sitting at the bar when i found out tiger wood had a car wreck.
Is that scam publishing shop still on Elliewood where the professors would publish their own books and charge you $500 for a paper machet textbook held together by twigs and berries?
Random underrated corner spot - Hot Tomatoes. Pretty limited in time - just late 90s, I think. Great slice joint and cheap pitchers (I think). Never much of a hangout spot, but an underrated spot to hang out with a crew. Good enough for a homesick Jersey kid.
There were several Fridays where we would try to drive to Chiliās in Barracks Road and slam a few Margaritas then try to drive back to our apartment before we got drunk⦠that was so dumb. We were so dumb as college kids⦠yet we thought we were playing chess and not checkers⦠did I mention we were so dumb?
We did the same at X all day happy hour on Thurs at Uncle Julioās generic Mexican joint⦠Way too much driving for cheap margs on a Thursday.
It was above Little Johns. You had to take the little stairway to the left of Little Johns front windows.
As @BDragon said, was a great date spot. Their duck pot pie was pretty damn good. And was the first place I upgraded from like Blue Moon and Shock Top caliber beers to some actual interesting beers.
Cavalier Inn and Italian Villa and Sarges/ The Tavern. Also that Chinese restaurant beside Lambeth cause we used to park there and the woman that owned it would catch us and go nuts!
