Brutal killing a Dragon. Lotta good things south of 64 on 29.
My Dad lives in Greensboro, and I love the drive between Charlottesville & Greensboro on 29. Very relaxingā¦highway driving but not as hectic as interstate travel. And you hit Lynchburg & Danville along the way if you want to break the trip up some.
Just made the trip a week ago and couldnāt agree more.
Depending on what direction youāre coming from, it does. Well, time does anyway. From Rt. 6 in Nelson to I64 in Charlottesville, itās 21 miles. In a car, driving the speed limit, that 21 miles is a 6 day drive. Itās bizarre. I avoid those 21 miles if at all possible.
The rest of 29 isnāt bad. Speed trappy, but not bad.
Hah i do that stretch with mu eyes closed but get what you mean
I drove that commute (from Red Hill Road, not from 6) everyday for 11 years and I donāt see how that stretch of 29 is worse than Cville to Ruckersville.
Ohhh great point very familiar with both 29 north to Ruckersville is awful. And now its all lights terrible.
That side is all traffic, lights and development. It should feel like it takes forever because it does. South of Charlottesville 29 is a lot of nothing, and it still seems like it takes forever.
29 between Greensboro and Charlottesville is one of my favorite stretches of road anywhere. Having grown up in Danville and attended UVA, I feel like I could drive 29 between the two with my eyes closed. The stretch between Lovingston and southern Albemarle (right around Dr. Hoās) is just a blast to drive. Fun (maybe just to me) fact: the summers after my first and second years, I worked on a project to expand a three-mile stretch of 29 just south of the VA/NC border from two lanes (one in each direction) to four lanes with a median. Iāve been living off stories from those summers my whole life. To the extent that a human can have a relationship with a highway, 29 and I have been friends for a very long time.
Awesome story and Id gladly buy you a tall boy to hear those stories.
I used to know that stretech of 29 by heart but I wont lie every since they out that Lynchburg/Ahmerst bypass in it jacks me up every time.
Here is how bad my sense of direction is. I just learned that Crozet is west of Cville
Charlottesville geography always Fd me up somehow other than north south
Man I love the 29 south area. Went to MHS, so ended up friends with a lot of people from the North Garden and Nelson area.
I rented a small farm house for a couple years off Plank Rd back in the day. Actually, this was in my FB memories, 12 years ago today. Miss this view and backyard:
Damn Fresh, I knew that and i live almost 200 miles away
But it kind of sticks in my mind ever since i got a speeding ticket there
Iād love to see if we could make that happen, @Dragon. I learned a lot of valuable life lessons on that job site and also saw and heard some of the funniest shit Iāve seen/heard in my life. If I didnāt see some of the stuff I saw out there, nobody could ever convince me it happened.
Julepsā¦went there this past Novemberā¦good crab cakes
Edo Squid is another favoriteā¦my only issue is it is very smallā¦and you may be seated a little too close to the people next to you
I feel that Mama Zuā¦the sister restaurant to Edo did not have that problemā¦
Could this be worth it?
My favorite disclaimer:
We cannot accommodate gluten-free, dairy-free or vegan diets on this tour.
I suppose thatās a matter of taste, but I would guess no unless youāre looking for an activity to kill time. The idea of a walking tour of a stretch you can cover in 5 minutes is kinda funny.
@AnonymooseHoo im in your neck of the woods this weekend. Checking out Little Bull this eveningā¦
Havenāt been able to go there yet.
Some other random places I like:
Gocciolina
Rue Cler
Alley 26
Bar Virgile
Mateo
Mother and Sons
Cucciolo
Seraphine
Dashi (sit upstairs at the bar if possible)
If you want a drink after dinner, you could walk over to Kingfisher which is awesome
