Recent things that I’ve enjoyed (repeats of things I’ve mentioned before, because I’m a creature of habit):
- Fried calamari + steak frites at Bar Tomas; fancy chef-y food in a casual setting is so good.
- Sidling up to the Tavola back bar and getting the burrata appetizer + anything.
- The new-ish, expanded Al Carbon location in 5th St Station having a salsa bar; now I can get an absurd amount of aji sauce.
- The steak sandwich at Desayuna Con Gomez; my personal favorite of the genre around town.

Hit up Tavola last night - had the burrata, calamari and the carbonara - so good. Alicia does a fantastic job! We had a super Red - Jassarte 2017 - highly recommend

Saw him at Kardinal Hall on Tuesday.
Shook his hand as he and Laurel were walking in and said “retirement looks great on you.”
Before he could say anything, Laurel chimed in “it sure does!”

One of my dad’s closest friends is Bashir (of bashir’s tavern). They even had a small band during their youths in Algeria where they would tour and perform a little. Spent a lot of my youth visiting charlottesville not knowing UVA was even a thing
