Jarin hasn’t done anything in this Arizona Alabama game (1 rebound, Sam Walters has 12 pts). Neither would have done much or come close to the impact groves has had for us this year vs real opponents. So that’s kinda a blessing in the short run even if long run not ideal (as in we would be a borderline NIT team without Groves impact).
Both of them kinda soft/non-assertive. Kinda would fit right in with the rest of the team outside Reece (we need psychotic mfing dawgs)
Also speaks to how bad these 2022 and 2023 classes were because of COVID.
Watched the replay of that game last night and I saw two flawed teams battling it out. There haven’t been many teams I’ve watched this year that don’t have glaring flaws, so this really is a good year to just make the tourney and see if we can get hot. But I digress.
Creighton’s issues are similar to ours in some ways in that they don’t have guards or wings that can generate offense outside of Trey Alexander. Steven Ashworth has been underwhelming and was actually benched for the last 20 mins of the game in favor of career backup guard Farabello. So they’ve downgraded from Nembhard to Ashworth and it’s really killing them in P5 games. The OT it was obvious that Villanova was just denying Kalkbrenner and forcing their guards to score and they couldn’t generate anything outside of a few Alexander iso baskets.
Watched the Traudt minutes and two things stuck out that won’t be a surprise but are really glaring… he moves like his shoes have bricks in them and he truly does just stand in the corner on offense. It’s not an exaggeration to say he is 6’10 Taine Murray with a better shot at this stage of his career.
I really hated to lose Traudt. I still think it would have been great having him on the court with Imac. It would have been pick your poison. I now believe he just doesn’t have the dawg in him that you need. I’m not putting Traudt down because i know Tony would have got him involved. Maybe Creighton has more talent than we do but that’s a waste of a great shooter
Jeff Jones had a heart attack last night. Expected to fully recover but in the hospital for 2-3 more days and clearly not coaching his team vs TCU right now.
Sure but you can adjust everyone’s that way… no one has played only good teams.
Literally had one bad game against Auburn.
50% or better in the other 11 games.
Yes his rebounds have been elevated against smaller teams.
But if he is actually really good then the question becomes “why can’t we find unheralded really good kids”. And then the answer is that literally every single other fan base in this country asks the same question, with about 5-10 exceptions. It’s really hard and props to Mike Young for finding one that he can stick on a bunch of NIT/bubble teams
