Very interesting to see the direction that some schools are going with their hires. Miami, FSU, Utah are looking at an entirely different type of coach/resume.

I mean thatās kinda what Tony Bennett did. Granted, Wazzu wasnt top 10 his last season but they were 10th the year before.

Not sure if Odom can sustain success at one place.
Close race - Iāll go with the guy who I want to hear in interviews and social media etc way moreā¦. And thatās Pitino over Odom in a landslide.
Pitino is engaging - Odom is boring.
And I donāt think either values the UVA job differently than the other.
And Pitino is 9 years younger.

I guess thatās a particular advantage of hiring a current assistant. I see the elite assistant path as being a little riskier than hiring a successful mid-major coach though.

Weāll see, I think he gets Able to recommit there. Have my doubts about whether or not heāll actually be able to flip the Boozerās.
Will probably recruit well overall though, at least for the first couple years.
Rumor has it their high school coach will be one of his assistants. But heās a well connected guy who will have value outside trying to flip the boozers.
That Ferber piece (and Ferber on the Willet pod) makes the argument that NBA hires havenāt worked out, but most NBA hires were in the Ewing, Mullin, Drexler lane: basically nostalgia hires. Woody not too far off
With Loucks, Jensen, and Young (BYU), teams are trying another mode: guys with ties to the school, but not hired to impress donors. We shall seeā¦
