🏀 Outside UVA Recruiting 2023-24

I may be on an island - but I heard and read enough things the last 10 days to believe we weren’t 2nd for Kon. And I don’t think we are near 2nd now either.

I don’t know if there was a “2nd” it’s not like he ranked the schools. I do think it’s likely that he struggled to choose between Duke and UVa. But that is kind of a binary choice between good and evil. Since he dipped his toes in the water of the dark side, it wouldn’t surprise me if he chose Bama now or someone like them.

This is where I am, and why I posted the other day that this has more in common with SKJ, Juzang, Quinerly than with Justin Anderson or Marial Shayok or Sam Hauser. It’s about how it happened, and I don’t think it left the kind of taste in Bennett’s mouth that he would be running back to the table.

Marquette mod was hearing UVA as the team to beat prior to Duke visit. HGN heard an assistant coach at one of Kon’s top 4 schools was saying it was either UVA or Duke. All the parents of kids close to Kons family/Phenom were saying “Not instate” for Kon.

But I do agree that our roster is clogged at his spot. Unless Rohde either shows he aint it (and therefore not a hurdle) or rocks out (and gets draft buzz) I dont expect it, nonwithstanding all bridges burned and what not from his announcement

Everything I’ve heard, including some things that trickled out from other coaching staffs, is that it was only UVA and Duke at the end with Kon. I think people might be reading too much into him saying afterwards that he thought for a long time he’d go to Marquette. I think that’s true…but that long time ended somewhere around spring time when he started looking at things differently.

If it’s possible another school was in the picture it was Wisconsin. He took about half the money to go to Duke than he would have gotten there.

All that said…None of that matters much when a recruit decommits later. Things always look different later, and everybody’s situation will have changed. No guarantee any of the original schools would come out on top.

So what you’re saying is, it’s a lock that Kon is coming to UVA?

Oh wow. Thanks. That team gonna have some highlights but best of luck coaching these dudes!

Edit: seems like they played in lot of same events this summer all over the US

If KK did decommit, I’d totally be ok not going down that road again. Don’t really care for how he handled the commitment the first time.

Same here. But I’m also a sicko and he’s really damn good so if we went down that road again I’d be two feet in lmao.

Yeah I trust the staff on that front. If they feel like he’s good enough to go full send on again, then fuck it why not. But I would also understand them cutting their losses and deciding not to pursue after how he handled things, especially now that we have Sharma signed on. Makes him even less of a need for our roster, more just a luxury recruit/ceiling raiser now.

Love it!

I’ve mentioned before my sons are at VCU so they’re my #2 team. Saw Jennings play a couple of times last year, and wasn’t at all disappointed that we were kicking the tires prior to Bliss committing. VCU is probably a better level if he wants to play early, than the ACC though.

Glad he’s not coming in this year, would’ve been rough to deal with in Friday’s game lol. I’ve always wondered how a giant 7’3+ big would do in TB’s system, have to imagine hedging wouldn’t go well but I’d be down to see him take a chance on one of these guys.

Jesus, he almost killed that kid at the end when he blocked him

Some fun recruiting drama going on, apparently Derik Queen isn’t committing today like he said and the Maryland 247 board is currently melting down as they do. Jeff Rabjohns the IU insider straight up said that Jeff Ermann has been lying to the MD site about what’s happening in the recruitment and apparently contacted 247sports corporate to look into how inaccurate Ermann is, which I find absolutely hilarious.
