It would be nice if BC could at least be not bad. I still always forget that they are ACC members. Their strong brand of mediocrity has done little for the conference.
This is the player equivalent of every head coach talking at their initial press conference that they’re going to push the tempo. TB of course was a noticeable exception to that.
Would be funny to be honest. “I’m hoping we get to #8 in the conference and win the Advocare Orlando Invitational.”
… or the often used word “culture”
Looks like Nickel and Rice left VT without committing. That’s gotta be concerning for them
I remember once a year when the Hoos play them and are suddenly in a dog fight with a team that plays in an empty stadium and ahs one 5 games on the season.
Conte Forum is awful. Worst college arena I’ve ever attended.
That being said, BC’s new coach put 3 players into the NBA draft while coaching at College of Charleston (!). Read somewhere as well that while on Clemson’s staff, he was their lead recruiter so he’s familiar with the ACC.
If anything, think that it’s a clear path to playing time for Hand. First recruiting win for Grant.
It’s the curse of Al Skinner. Not that he was amazing, but he got decent talent there.
I hope Grant turns it around a bit.
Knowing nothing about finances, and mostly ignoring football, joining the ACC doesn’t seem to have been so great for them. Though I like visiting my in-laws outside of Boston and being able to watch on MASN, so net positive for me.
Some stats on Skinner / successors:
Skinner’s last 10 years: 7 tourneys, including 1 sweet 16, and three other round 2s
Skinner’s successors: 0 tourneys; only one winning ACC record (the year after Skinner left)
That’s the other reason I want them to be good. We suck in empty arenas and generally seem to have trouble getting up for bad games. A better BC might see a better Hoo team when we do play them, and then if we do lose it won’t sting as much.
Absolutely agree about that. Hate that Noon tipoff with the guys looking like they are sleepwalking through the game, or the random tues 6pm tip up at BC in the middle Jan, sandwiched between Duke and Cuse on the weekend. But agree, I’d rather lose to a 10-10 BC than a 5-15. Of course I rather just blow them out by 30…
We did well in 2019 when Ainge brought the whole Celtics front office to watch the team. Would be nice if Stevens did the same thing every year we play. A little extra motivation.
That was the year CTB took the guys over to visit the Celtics facility correct?
It’s only Tuesday. They very well could have committed while on the visit and are just trying to pick out which moon phase they want in their edit.
A poster on TSL that seems loosely plugged in is intimating that the staff feels really really good wrt Nickel. Notably mum on Rice
Agree all 3 of our guys left their first visit uncommitted. The tell of course will be if Nickel visits UNC and Rice Louisville
Generally speaking it would be nice if the middle class got a little bit better in the ACC. There’s no reason why there shouldn’t be a few teams every year that pop in and out of the 15-25 range of the poll. Would also help our metrics which will be key when we start going for 1-2 seeds again
That’s a good question, I don’t know. I figured they all showed up to see Dre, Ty, Kyle, etc.
If I recall it had to do with CTB’s connection to Ainge, and they team was on a NE swing through Cuse and BC, and they used the Celtics facility etc. And of course I’m sure the Celtics wanted a look at the guys.
He was someone I was hoping we would recruit as a modern 5. Good get for FSU
Congrats to FSU. They’ve landed an Air Jordan. In school colors no less. And some basketball guy too apparently.
UNC board saying the Nickel visit went really well and he’ll decide between UNC and Tech likely within the next week. If Carolina steals that one I’ll just have to laugh
I always laugh at tech. I don’t even need an excuse.
