Outside UVa Recruiting

You’re more likely to redshirt your first year here than start… But the Joey Baker comp is dead on.

Trilly Donovan was speculating on this weeks ago and Caleb quote tweeted him and openly denied it, lol

I like to imagine some middle manager in Michigan admissions just cooking up reasons to prevent transfers because he feels like they’re bad fits for the roster. He looked at Love’s shooting percentages and was like “Let’s see which social sciences 101 classes on your transcript look like BS”.

Which schools wants to blatantly admit they are a shitty academic institution?

I’ll be curious to see if more info on the Caleb Love transfer credits comes out - there was a recent article on AP News or WSJ about certain schools that stiff students on transfer credits. I did some extra undergrad work before grad school, and the registrar (not UVA’s) definitely didn’t want to transfer much of my previous degree in.

It’s hard to transfer into UVA as a senior. Is it even allowed for regular students? I know with Hauser, he had to change majors and it cost him a lot of credits. He needed the fifth year to graduate because of it. There was some concern he would change his mind once it got so messy with admissions. I’m not sure the details with Gardner but he also didn’t graduate on time because of lost credits.

UNC further cementing itself as a clown school

You’d think Michigan would have known much earlier that this transfer wouldn’t work? Maybe there were additional credits he needed to get this semester but didn’t?

I bet there was a UNC-alum prof. who needed to sign off on the transfer credit and refused out of spite!

This one, right? Good read:

Michigan had a similar thing with Terence Shannon trying to transfer in last year. Their admissions seem to be stringing things out unnecessarily. One thing to have high standards or whatever. Another to do this sort of thing. Maybe they don’t like Juwan.

I’m pretty sure @GoBlueHoo is a prof there - any insight?

I’m not a prof at Michigan. I went there for the last two years of undergrad and stayed to get my MA and PhD.

The evaluation of what credits will transfer is not necessarily made by the registrar. At UVa, individual schools (Arts & Sciences, for example) make those decisions, sometimes after consulting with relevant departments about issues such as whether a UNC sociology course is equivalent to any UVa sociology course. From what I know it’s pretty common for a school not to accept all the credits a student earned at another college, although Michigan accepted all of my mine when I transferred there (although that was a long, long time ago).

I don’t think Michigan has higher standards than most schools but Michigan’s standards might differ from UNC. I have heard from a friend who is pretty knowledgeable about Michigan athletics that the issue for Love at Michigan was an academic one. If that’s true, it might mean some credits didn’t transfer or it might have to do with Love’s grades in his courses at UNC. My guess is that it’s the latter, but that’s purely a guess; I have no inside knowledge.

That all seems reasonable. My issue is I don’t understand why someone (Juwan? Academic adviser? Some other AD liaison ?) couldn’t make that determination with a 5-minute look at the transcript. But I’m just guessing; I don’t really know much about this stuff other than what I absorbed in the several hours of my young life waiting in lines at Carruthers.

Also, may have related to something this past semester. Which I suppose just wrapped up.
