He does know some things and maybe he’s right that this is the reality for Tech. They’ll probably never be more than a perennial bubble team but man he flips on the condescension when any one suggests that MY needs to start landing better talent to help them take the next step.
To be fair they have a lot working against them in recruiting especially for basketball
Absolutely and he may be right regarding the guards. But the wings that they have missed out on would absolutely get to them a higher place potentially. No surprise that when they were a whisker away from the elite 8 is when they had good wing play.
Also hilarious that they try to equate MY’s run in the acc tourney with Buzz almost beating a Zion led Duke team to advance to the elite 8. That team was legit good and could have made a final 4.
Spot on! That tech team in 2019 would’ve wiped the floor with Young’s ACC championship team. Whole league was better that year too. Crazy to think of that year with Zion led Duke, UNC was championship qualify, tech was top 15 level, Miami FSU and Louisville were all very solid. Probably missing some other teams too.
CvilleHokie13 / CvilleHoops13 – knew hoops, and was pretty non-condescending, though
I think Young might have a decent thing going with the in-state kids transferring back home (Beran / Nickel). Whoever said 7-10 seed was spot on, though. I think that’s their lot in life with MY, and it’s not so bad, tbh.
Interesting that Matt Hodge will also be 20 by the time he plays college ball (nothing wrong with that, took extra time in college myself to get my degree). Also one maryland’s player comp is for Hodge is Sam Hauser. Interesting… (still stand by my he plays a lot like BVP but higher ceiling).
I think they’re forgetting how historically good a shooter Hauser was in college, Hodge can stretch the floor for sure but I don’t see him getting anywhere close to what Sam was and still is.
To use a Maryland player as a comp, I could see him ending up as a Jake Layman type player if his development goes right. Solid 4/3 hybrid with fringe NBA potential who provides spacing and decent athleticism, but is never really the go-to option on a good team nor a standout rebounder in the post.
