Outside UVa Recruiting

The Portal brings all kinds of interesting questions and insights. A lot of “what ifs” and “Is this how it always was”.

That’s wild. All I ever knew about Bryant until recently is they were that school that offered like 50 juniors every June 15th, the first day you’re allowed to contact them. Every other offer on twitter that day is from Bryant.

I just remember some UVA fans wanted Earl out of HS and even when he transferred from Miami. Turns out you need to be able to shoot a 3 no matter how athletic or how finnesse in the midrange you are

For a while, it seemed like we were going to get both McCorkle and Whitt. Not sure either got any better since their Sophomore years in high school

Bryant has 5 guys in the portal and has already signed 7 other guys from the portal.

Before this year I thought they were one of those schools that was D1 in lax and D3 in everything else

Louisville hired the son of the CEO of Roc Nation (Jay-Z’s agency) as their Director of Operations.

Also like the post noted in the transfer thread of predictions, Emoni Bates to Louisville smoke.

NBA scouts gonna tune in to see Emoni and walk away having watched Reece and Kihei in moverblocker whoop that ass

I know a few people who preferred Whitt over Reece, even as recently fall of 21. Yeesh.

Pretty decent mid major baseball program.

They were in the Charlottesville Regional back in 2016 as the 2 seed with a 47-10 (26-4) record from the NEC.

Some people had them as a trendy upset pick but they went 0-2 losing to both East Carolina (3 seed) and William & Mary (4 seed).

Of course, we also lost to ECU and W&M in that regional after opening with an easy win over W&M to send them into the loser’s bracket versus Bryant.

Furman looks like a great landing spot for Carter Whitt. Was crazy that he was in high school the fall semester then playing big minutes in the ACC in the spring semester. Looking forward to him having success in the Southern Conference.

Sounds like Tyrell Ward is visiting the Hokies this weekend. No idea if HS teammate Rodney Rice accompanies him on his visit.

Also sounds like Efton Reid will be visiting the hokies soon but Georgetown most likely the leader still.

Ward’s connection to Xavier just got hired to Georgetown

Praying Ward goes to Gtown or anywhere but VT. He’s a certified stud. Reid I don’t think is anything special so I really don’t care about that one as long as it means Aluma is moving on. That dude is a beast and they’re in for a rude awakening when he leaves

Would be funny if Ewing made a splash in recruiting again.

Ewing’s recruiting is like the cicadas. Make loud noises every few years, then the guys disappear soon thereafter (mcclung, Akinjo, et al).

Kinda similar to UVA? Makes noise every few years?
Joe’s class - most left.
Guy’s class - they all stayed.
Isaac’s class?? TBD.

Nah, the cicadas disappear. We have had ups and downs in recruiting but (until recent years, I guess), our recruits keep making noise at UVa.

Re: Carter Whitt. There had been some thoughts on spoliation of guys like Whitt and Casey Morsell. That is — they were worse off by being thrown into the fire too soon. It’s sort of like the inverse of my theory (generally) that it’s better for development to keep guys engaged with PT from the jump.

Interesting to keep an eye on. I don’t totally discount spoliation as a theory, but I generally think Casey and Carter needed to find their level… and both may have found it. Tbh, Casey seems well suited for a utility guard role supporting a bunch of gunners.

Yeah I’d hate to see Ward at VT. Obviously because he’d help them a lot but mainly because I think they may actually get a nice DMV pipeline set up at that point. Which would infuriate me because we can never get anyone local

Someone should invent an “hard word” link where you can click words like spoliation and get the definition immediately as you read

Spoiled- like bad fruit. Implication is overuse at the beginning, which admittedly, maybe I need a better term.
