I seriously doubt even Trey knows right now. I think his feedback from going through the process will guide him. I think there are risks involved either way if he’s expected to be a 2nd round pick. He could come back to school and not improve his draft stock. He could also leave but not get drafted, or get drafted but not stay in the NBA very long. I think teams aren’t all that patient with a late draft pick and will move on to the next guy with potential.
Yeah. If you’re a first round pick, or an early second round pick with guaranteed money, that means they value you and you should leap at that chance. But going undrafted is arguably better than being a late second round pick because then you can pick the teams you think will be the best fit for your career rather than the team picking you based on their needs (which probably mesh with your career if you’re a first round pick, but are less likely to if you’re picked later). You also have more timing flexibility. If you’re a guard, and a team has a bunch of guards get hurt in August, you can go talk to them. If you’re a 2nd round pick then you can’t do that.
Is Gurley the player the staff is checking on in case Murphy leaves? I’m guessing he and Gardner could play together if they can get both.
I just don’t think they ever got much of a foot in the door with Felder and at this point after losing McKoy I’m not sure he’s exactly what they want anymore.
Much later than normal —
The NBA announced that deadline to declare for this year’s NBA Draft is Sunday, May 30 at 11:59 p.m. ET. The deadline for an early entry player to withdraw from the NBA Draft is Monday, July 19 at 5 p.m. ET.
The NBA Combine is on the schedule for July 7. The NCAA still hasn’t set an NBA Draft withdrawal date of its own, but that date is likely to fall somewhere around the middle of July.
There is very little chance that anyone that is in the portal of value now will still be available by July… or even mid-May.
Murphy going through the NBA process could be a bit of a roadblock to attracting dudes?
Dont know if this means anything or not. Trey posted a video of him on IG .He liked every comment about it except for the ones saying that they hope he comes back.
He didn’t respond to a lot of comments. I’m sure if it were up to him he would make a lot of money sooner rather than later
Fwiw ESPN and the Athletic have bumped trey up farther on their draft boards. ESPN has him at 42 with the athletic at 37. That’s the range I’d heard the league saw him at a couple weeks ago, mocks finally catching up.
Indiana is getting a lot of momentum keeping players, especially the in-state guys. Relevant with Armaan Franklin
Jibes with what I heard yesterday wrt pessimism with Franklin and Felder.
I hope we see a swift pivot
I wonder how many folks that entered the portal will end up staying at their current schools
I’m curious if there will be a wave of 2021 decommits as some of these transfers land at places. Gotta imagine that some of the transfers will be impacting playing time expectations that some 2021 guys have in a way that wasn’t anticipated at their time of commitment.
That’s kind of a bummer because I think Franklin is a great player and fits what we’re looking to do.
Im just waiting for the Trey Kaufman decommit…
He went to Purdue.
Knowing the need for a guard, does the staff flat out ask where he is in the process so they know whether to continue on or cut bait?
Man I don’t know in that detail…but they’ve been in deep with Franklin. Anything we’re hearing is yesterday’s news to them honestly.
Oh I know.
Sounds like it’s all coming together for Trey with those improved mocks. Moving up to that range pretty much guarantees he’s would get drafted,
