Extend Tina’s contract!
Please no! I won’t be a fan of this program until she’s gone!
Lifetime contract! Let’s lock it up!
I was getting updates on the score and kept thinking i had to be reading it wrong
I get there is no chance UVA could get Dawn and they’d likely have to pay a huge buyout to South Carolina, but is Tammi Reiss attainable to replace Thompson? There is no way a URI coaching gig has that big of a buyout I would think.
you’d think she’d have to be, right? If our women’s bball coaching search is unable to offer the sitting HC of a mid-major program (who happens to be an alumnus and all-time great), then what are we even doing? i don’t know what other types of candidates would even be available… former coaches who are not working?
i know these things are never as open and shut as we want them to be, but i’ll be disappointed as heck if it’s not her. it’s funny, growing up in cville i probably went to 30 women’s games as part of the Cavalier Kids Club before i ever went to a men’s game (assuming my parents thought the investment in men’s tickets for a 5-6 year old was not worth it, and the kids club was pretty reasonable i’m sure), and those were some of the best memories. would be nice to have someone from that era come back and at least get us to “middle of the road” and a long-shot to make the tournament.
I’m willing to put my BDragon Coaching predictions hat on and say Tammi Reiss will be coaching in Charlottesville come the start of the the 22/23 school year. The only way it does not happen is if she takes a look at the situation and thinks, it’s too big of a ask to rebuild the program. But I firmly believe the groundwork has been laid to at the very least make a compelling offer to her.
Love that optimism. I hope your right
As much as she still loves UVA, I can’t fathom her turning Carla down.
You’re probably right, but I never like to speak in absolutes when it comes to guessing what another person will do.
2 wins in a row? Coach Thompson must be trying to save her job
Life-time-con-tract
She’s finally got this figured out. Show up on time and play the games she thinks she can win while forfeiting those in which she’s overmatched!
Worked for tech last season.
I pay so little attention to the women’s side I didn’t even realize we are 5-20. How has she even kept her job this far into the season.
Just no real benefit to firing her mid-season. She’s almost 100 percent going to fired as soon as the season is over. And letting it play out also makes it abundantly clear to the women’s basketball world that she was given a fair shake and just completely bombed.
The last line esp. And you have to remember the optics. Thompson is a women’s basketball legend on the court. Firing her in season us not a good look and disrespectful even if her tenure has been a disaster. Dont want that label on your program moving forward.
Yeah, UVA just doesn’t fire coaches in-season unless there is something scandalous. It’s unlikely to make a team perform or their season any better to fire a coach that way, so why not just wait until the end of season and then quietly negotiate a parting-ways resignation with all the right quotes. Keeps any bad optics to a minimum.
Only reason I can think of firing a coach in season is if there’s a scandal and/or you want to promote someone inhouse to the HC job. If there’s no intent to do that, you’re asking for more problems. What happens if that interim coach gets hot? What type of signal does a mid-season firing send to a potential hire? Assuming that top targets are currently working, it’s not like they are going to jump ship mid-season and they may even resent being put in an awkward situation of having to answer all questions and deal with distractions to their current season.
All of the above gave me great information. Thank yall.
