FWIW no teams in 26/27 are going to be as good as Michigan, Duke, and Arizona from last year. Overall quality is going to dip now that the bonus years are largely aged out and there isn’t a historically good freshman class

Our current starting 5:

PG: incumbent, 9.3 ppg, 3.4 apg, 3:1 A:TO, top 10 ACC assist rate and steal rate, former Top 50 recruit

SG: 1st team all-BW, 15.9 ppg, #1 option on league regular season champ, League Top 25 eFG%/TS% and steal rate, top 10 3P%

SF: incumbent, prototype 6-7 wing frame and athleticism, 10.6 ppg, 40% 3P%

PF: Incumbent all-ACC 1st team, 15.6 ppg, 6.2 rpg, league Top 25 TS% , OR%, FT Rate

C: Incumbent, 7.1 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 2.2 blkpg, league top 25 OR% and 3P%, league #2 block %, potential first round 2027 draft pick

There’s a reason we’re seen as Top 10 material based just upon those 5.

Well…TB had multiple seasons winning 25-30 games playing our Packline- D and outworking other teams until the tournament and then teams began to turn it on against us…

so that’s to say that not everything translates and there needs to be flexibility.

I always thought Malik’s was low but he could hoist it quickly from 3. And he was taller.

Agreed. I see a competitive team but nothing special right now. Probably missing one top end baller who can go get his buckets when things break down or we get cold.

I think they could get passed this year. None of those 3 were preseason top 5 teams but turned out to be great so wouldn’t surprise me if something similar happens this year.

Everybody plays hard ass defense in the NCAAT. We generally were tougher and more intense during the reg season but that advantage was reduced in the postseason.

I think he may have played on an AllBlacks team with Taine (or at least a tryout).

More on this, we were one of the teams that recruited him before he signed with the NBL (way back in 2020 lol, the week Covid began). But CavFutures didn’t even exist back then and the IG account wasn’t created until 2022. And that account mostly follows UVA affiliated people.

Anyways, I don’t think King will be eligible under the new rule anyways so it’s probably a moot point.

Is that official? I havent seen anyone else say that.

Yep that’s exactly my point! We outshined teams by play great D, frustrating their scorers, but then at tournament time that advantage dissipated due to them also exhibiting more effort.

It’s worth noting, though, that prior to the 2023-24 season, when Virginia entered the NCAAT with a healthy roster, they went to the Sweet 16, Elite 8, and won a national championship. When missing key contributors, they never made it out of the first weekend. And, while you might consider the 2021 tournament an exception, the fact that the team was in a ā€œlock downā€ in the week prior (with no practices), I view it as much the same. Virginia, under Coach Bennett was like a machine, albeit a delicate one, and removing one component had its consequences.

25 is a killer on the boards, has some go to post moves, and likes to talk her sh**, but lacks the court awareness we need for Odom’s system.

I say lock her in for $1.5M… I’d go as high as $2M if I she has A+ ups.

Jurian Dixon analysis from BUR/Majewski. Fairly pro forma:

Jurian Dixon | 6’4" Guard/Play-making Wing | UC Irvine :right_arrow: Virginia

There’s a lot to like about Dixon in Charlottesville. Played on and off the ball at UCI about equally with about equal efficiency. 40% shooter on catch and shoots, 41% off the dribble, 38% from 3 overall on a significant volume increase. Efficiency didn’t appreciably drop with bigger role on ball and much higher usage and shot rates. Doesn’t rebound or finish at the rim well for his size at all, which are significant drawbacks, but he’s a substantial improvement on the perimeter defensively for UVA, carrying a 95th percentile DRAPM with him. - Jordan Majewski

Skeptical of whatever DRAPM is without some old school eye test, but will wait patiently** for @Cuts_from_The_Corner to give us a taste

** but not that patiently!
