šŸ€ PORTAL SEASON (UVa Offseason) 2026

It’s true, I still trust Coach Odom. He 100% came through last year with way more holes to fill without overspending on the flashy transfers. Finding players who care more than just making the most money may be a reason we were able to keep everyone this year, whereas players who just care about money will go straight to the portal again next year.

Actually we have 10 commits. Of course it’s gonna take longer to get transfers when we are working to retain guys. Didn’t have to do that at all last year.

He might find a more patient one though….

You do realize all but Sam were ā€˜retained’ before the portal even opened, right? Actually he was as well then walked it back. So, no, other than Sam we have not been working to retain guys the past 2 weeks

You really think top tier programs’ message boards would be patient right now with five open roster spots, no HS commits, no portal commits 2 weeks into the portal?

I think its really helpful to compare us to Illinois. They went and retained their entire rotation besides Wagler and Boswell (neither were ever staying or eligible), have signed two top-75 freshmen, and went out and got Vaaks. To date, we’re nowhere near that

If they get Juke too, someone’s gonna Duke Miles it outta there.

The rational ones would.

And I don’t know, I haven’t asked any of them. I don’t cruise through other team’s message boards in my spare time. I’m sure Kansas and Duke fans are having an enjoyable time right now.

ā€œTo dateā€ is the operative phrase here. Plenty of time.

10? Are you including the walk-ons?

This is a really good point. Even the impatient among us (myself included) have been miraculously patient. But now it’s time for some news.

It’ll happen, and when it does I’m sure it’ll be worth the wait. There’s still plenty of time though. Malik committed on May 10th last year. TDR didn’t commit until July. Two years ago, Coleman Hawkins, one of the biggest names in the portal, committed to KSU in mid-June. We haven’t even gotten to the deadline for draft withdrawals. The staff is patient and has plan. It just sometimes seems like some fans would rather the staff start throwing out desperation bags to random kids. Everything will be fine.

The bar for ā€œmiraclesā€ has been lowered quite a bit, it seems. Used to be walking on water or something. Now it’s just not freaking out for a week on a message board.

No telling how active the staff has been. If they are doing it right, the whole process should be cloaked in secrecy. That said, I am assuming that they are quite active, but beyond public view. Also, I don’t know where they might be focused. The transfer portal? Europe? Middle-East? Asia? Central or South America? Who knows? We’ll all learn in due time! Go ā€˜Hoos!!!

And they already fit in. Welcome @Lovinger

I want Able because I think an ā€œAbleā€ and ā€œChanceā€ back court will give announcers a great menu of pun options during our games

Cain is able
Able is Cain (doesn’t work as well)

Jason Cain got any eligibility left to pair with Able?

Eh, we overspent on all transfers last year. Out of necessity really. Now a lot of these weren’t ā€œflashyā€ - agree with you there, but we were dropping big bags last season

There’s a reason so many came without visiting, or chose us when we weren’t even on their top 5 or whatever (Jacari)
