Apparently Jalen Shelley from Loyola Marymount is going to visit

I don’t know where you’re getting your figures. If its On3, their transfer portal list is woefully incomplete. As it stands now, according to VerbalCommits, there are roughly 752 commitments from the 2,659 players who are in the portal, and that includes those returning to their original school. That is fewer than 30%.

Top remaining, per Evan Miya. In a follow up, he notes that Conerway and Council don’t have eligibility left.

However, as a reminder, these portal rankings only get a 1.7385 on the THPRIJM (Tim Haney Portal Rankings I Just Made Up).

We’ve discussed this on the Sabre. It is from each positions top 50 players (they use 6 positions). It is a top 300. You wont find many quality P4 players outside of the top 300. Will there be exceptions? Sure but that isnt what you fill your team with and you probably dont fill your starting SG with a diamond in the rough.

Yessefou likely to UCLA, Juke to Michigan or Tennessee, Momchilivic-florida, Celsicar committed to Baylor today…………..lets hope Odom is heavily involved abroad. There isnt much left in the portal.

I’m taking a break at work checking out Benny Gealer and Ryan Agarwal stats, how’s your day going? :joy:

I’m still hopeful that we get a decent haul, but as the days pass the hope is dimming considerably. Time will tell.

How is Shelley’s defense? He’s definitely long but is he athletic?

AI slop from Trilly’s godforsaken discord site suggests it may be okay, but hard to rely on that.

We didn’t really have an athletic wing or wing stopper last year, so if he’s that, that could be good. I can think of a prominent play this last season (the most prominent?) where it would’ve been nice to have a wing stopper.

Obligatory - “it was the ref’s fault!”

This is a leadership and program-level failure potentially. Odom needs to deliver, and fast.

Actually, I suspect that there are more exceptions than you might imagine. The services are limited in how they evaluate transfer prospects. For the most part, I suspect that they are basing their rankings on the players’ 2026 production. That isn’t always valid, can be misleading, and some of the talking heads now know it. Last year, Darrion Williams was highly ranked (5th in the portal according to On3). After he failed to live up to that ranking, I heard multiple commentators referring to it as a “Batman & Robin” situation. N C State paid for Batman, but they got Robin. Already this year I have heard it questioned whether a highly touted player is a Batman or a Robin. On the other side, Onyenso was barely ranked inside the Top 300. At the same time, Sharma was ranked #386 and his play at St Louis would suggest that he was a major steal for them. Rohde was ranked higher than Sam Lewis. P5 players who see little action do not get valid evaluations. Often, mid major players do not get valid evaluations. Meanwhile, P5 players whose stats looked good, largely due to the players around them, get overrated. Lastly, just because a prospect puts up gawdy numbers doesn’t mean they’re good for the team. See P J Haggerty. Essentially, the published ratings are seriously flawed and shouldn’t be taken at face value.

Have to let it play out. But I wouldn’t put this on Odom. If things don’t play out well it’s a failure at upper levels of the school forcing our flagship programs to operate handcuffed to some ideal. Got to spend these days. No restrictions.

Odom will be judged by results on the court next season. What exactly does he need to deliver on your timetable?

You are making my points for me. Again, I don’t care if you are 176 or 299. Very few guys outside the top 300 make an impact. You went to 386 for a rotation player in the A10. Maybe Sharma could do that in a P4? I don’t know, I know he didn’t the year prior. I don’t take them as exact but there are certain marks where you are reaching on guys and you can find the exceptions but they are few and far between.

Poor Kadin. If he were in college hoops this year, he’d have been able to get $1 million for every chicken wing he caught
