Thanks for the morning laugh. So good
I went to Sharma because he is the one with whom I was familiar. If I were so inclined to waste an inordinate amount of my time, I imagine I could find many more exceptions. Essentially, these rankings of transfer prospects are next to worthless. Neither On3 nor 247Sports is capable of doing a credible job. There are plenty in the Top 300 who donât belong, and by extension, plenty outside of On3âs Top 300 who do belong. The list is click bait, and your faith in it is undeserved.
Portal rankings are:
- Next to worthless
- Useful guidepost
- Absolutely perfect and flawless
Field of 68, 247? Useless.
Miya? Good guideposts.
Among other things, Jeff Goodman, who is something of blithering twit in my opinion, admitted that Field of 68 got much of last yearâs list wrong. He claimed that there wasnât enough time to thoroughly evaluate all those who enter the portal.
@JBHoo In the Atlantis rumblings did they happen to mention if it would still be 3 games or if they are moving to 2
Thatâs true not just for the media. Thatâs true for the coaches, too.
I wonder if some sort of statistical whiz could find any correlation between Miya and F68/247âŚ
Agreed. I do still use On3âs periodically just because theyâre easy to search by position and I donât have an EvanMiya sub. I think they can be useful at identifying a rough tier of the player, but a player ranked 40th could very well outplay one ranked 5th. I think itâs unlikely an outside the top 300 will play like a top 10 guy though. Not impossible, but those guys ceilingsâ are usually kinda capped for a reason.
Theyâre all a bit useless now because of the euro influx that seems to be pretty difficult to try to evaluate.
I donât feel strongly we need a bunch of top 100 guys or anything, but in the situation weâre in with one very clear starting hole to fill with a good roster around it, I did have hopes weâd land someone fairly prominent. And we can still probably land the equivalent of a top 25-50 transfer in a euro.
My serious (and utterly banal) point on this is that portal rankings are kinda like the US News college list. While there may be problems with their methodology or rigor or specificity or whatever, generally Harvard, Yale, and Stanford are well regarded, highly selective universities.
But if you want to major in Mesolithic archaeology at an all girls school in the pacific NW, then you have to go beyond the headline list.
Yeah itâs useful for tiering. The change of which is better Harvard Yale or Stanford (or perhaps more relevant to this board UVa, Michigan, and UNC) year over year more reflects slight changes in methodology to me than any meaningful change in the schools, but there are meaningful changes visible in a schoolâs ranking changing in 5-year or 10-year stints (Vandy is a good example of this⌠although Iâd argue they gamed the system a bit but fake it til you make it! And even VPI has made a concerted effort).
Those rankings are a mess for many reasons, but if anyone chooses Stanford over Princeton because one is ranked higher on US news then you are making a decision for bad reasons. It should be about fit within a level
None of this is relevant to transfer rankings. Moral of the story- idc between 25 and 45 but I do care a little between 25 and 145.

My wife literally every game.
Ugo, HallâŚcome on down!
Which is why I was using top 50 at each position (combo guard was the 6th one), which made for top 300. Can there be a few outside the top 300 that are good? Sure but we are playing a lot better teams consistently than St Louis does in the A10.
Being able to resign both would close two big roster needs. Still would like a long combo guard who could give time at the 2 or 3
Would Dallin be eligible under the new rules (age)?
religious exception
@HOOS Jalen shelley
And thatâs why the coaches shouldnât be doing it. This is why you see most teams bringing in GMâs
