**Positive** Transfer Portal Thread

Kansas State guard Nijel Pack is in the transfer portal, source told ESPN. Huge addition to the transfer list. Averaged 17.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, shot 43.6% from 3-point range. Lot of schools had their eyes on him. First-team All-Big 12 selection.

Went to the same high school as Kyle Guy. Just some food for thought…

Personally will not be stoked if we roll Armaan out at the 3 again for defensive reasons. Hope we can get some size back in the lineup. I’d be more inclined to take an athletic wing transfer and start Reece-Armaan-Wing-Garnder-Shedrick. But given our shooting woes I can understand the temptation to take a guard.

Surprised this isn’t someone we are mentioned with. Atkins type

Do we even have room to entice a legit big? Doesn’t seem that way.

Could start over Kadin for a year at the 5, and then slide to the 4 the following season along Kadin at the 5 and traudt off the bench for 20-25 minutes at either front court spot.

If we have the full front court rotation coming back, and add a potentially instant impact frosh (he will be able to pick and pop from Game 1), there’s no need to add. Plus Igor is arguably frontcourt. (Though many seem to think wing).

I’d guess next year is the year to hit the portal hard for a bouncy big / athletic big / big big. (Maybe 2). We will lose at least Papi and Jayden (if not gone this off-season).

And this is where @Hooandtrue disagrees with me, I think, but not only do we not need to add, but it starts to get actively harmful to add.

Outside Reece I dont think there is anyone you can tie ourselves down to in terms of upgrading over. Earned not given has to go both ways. He’s a kid who does exactly what we want and need at the 4/5. If you can be honest with him about our situation (the roster vs the potential if he does well here) you take him and let the pieces fall. If we are still active with Fardwas from Utah Valley, the guy above could also be a piece to look at. Shot blocker, could be the high level wilkins to Jayden’s gill like 2015/2016

Im just trying to fantasize a Reece, Armaan, Ali, Omier, Kadin lineup when Jayden is on the bench. Who scores on us?

I’m with you most of the way on this. It’s one of the reasons I’d be fine if Gardner were a one-year guy and if Papi decided that 4 years at UVa was good enough (just like most of us did) and then we’d have all sorts of ways to supplement a Traudt/Shedrick post rotation with the portal, but if Gardner and Papi come back…

Jayden Gardner is just such a conundrum.

As an individual talent he is such an amazing scorer in the post. And something we have needed for quiet some time.

But defensively he isn’t a rim protector. He shut down Paolo as an individual but in terms of the team defense and packline D he is exploitable and not the best rebounder (all the rebounds we lose).

Ill allow a 5th year Jayden (Like I even have a say LOL) because Jayden is a top 5 Hoo for me in terms of fan favorite. Dude just has energy that we have needed for so long and Im a sucker for high energy hard working players, regardless of fit.

But man do we need a guy like the above going forward at the 4. To bring back the actual packline D we are so accustomed to.

You just can’t have your three at 6’4 with him. Just too small

Yeah I think getting a wing like Ali Ali at the 3 pairs beautifully with Jayden at the 4. And it helps Armaan by playing the 2 instead of the 3.

Not just you can’t have a small 3, you can’t have a small 3 and a sub 6 foot SG with Gardner. If you had Gardner with a 6 5 2-guard and a normal sized wing and Shedrick with another year of experience, you mitigate a lot of his difficulties

This is my thought also. This year we should be recruiting a *complimentary 4 man/athletic/shotblocking/defensive player, as we already have the ā€œtalentedā€ players from this recruiting cycle Isaac Traudt. Plus we will still have the talented scorers in Jayden Gardner, and developing Papi and Shedrick.

So we really only need a freak athlete who isn’t *expecting alot of playing time. Former player of year candidates in these other conferences that are used to playing 32 minutes a game will be dissapointed…that’s why we got Gardner *last year.

Regarding the guard spot, it’s a bit more tricky. Does Kihei leave? Then hopefully we can land London and have him contribute *this year. If Kihei stays then we already have enough ballhandlers so what do we do? Still take London with the understanding that he *may not play alot next year?

You can be that small but you can’t also shoot shitty like we do
