Nope, but I suspect it signals to the staff that itā€™s okay to start backfilling, but thatā€™s just a guess. Though I doubt we are backfilling for Jayden. Maybe Malachi. No knowledge, just guesses. Often bad ones.

I remember UVA taking a long look at him the first time around, I believe there may have been some academic concerns however. Update: I see now that he was Big 12 All Academic

Substantive thought on Vander Plas: heā€™s too redundant with Gardner. Undersized, offensively proficient big. Vander Plas can shoot, but I donā€™t think we could let him guard ACC 3ā€™s. If Jayden doesnā€™t come back, then he might be intriguingā€¦

Interesting article for anyone who, like me, was wondering about all of the West Virginia players entering the transfer portal. Makes me think that as bad as this year was relative to standards and as much of a cultural reset as Tonyā€™s preaching, it could have been worse:

That one was surprising for me considering his long-term potential there but heā€™s also had a rough year coming off a concussion. Ended up being super turnover-prone and story is he got sat by Underwood in the second half for getting in a fight with the coaching staff during halftime in their game against Houston

Sorry to see Carson go. Itā€™s the right move ā€“ for him and for Virginia ā€“ but I wish it had worked out differently.

Thanks for posting that. Kind of interesting. On the surface these are strange transfers from WVU. Bridges and McNeil. Both from not far away and both playing a lot, doing pretty well. But they are definitely finesse guys, not the types you normally associate with Hugs. He might be clearing house on purpose.

Yeah thatā€™s exactly the sense that I got as well as far as cleaning house. Saw some fans arenā€™t happy about him emphasizing post-up players while all of their shooters are leaving so itā€™ll be interesting to see him try to find that balance (or try to find shooters if the marketā€™s empty by then).

I wish it could have worked out better for Carson too. Great guy and a great shooter. Didnā€™t guite have the defense needed to play here. I wish him well and iā€™ll be keeping an eye on him wherever he ends up at.

Iā€™m sad McCorkle is transferring, even if it did seem very likely to happen. He committed early because he loved Tony and what Virginia is all about. In his interviews, he always seemed like one of the guys most pumped to be here, and by all accounts heā€™s really enjoyed his time at UVA. Itā€™s just rough when a kid so wanted to be here and then it didnā€™t work out for on-the-court reasons. A part of me wishes he would stick around just to graduate and be an alum, but I get that he wants to play. So it goes.
