**Positive** Transfer Portal Thread

Ok, I’m stealing @Hooandtrue ’s lane here:

I’m putting together my portal all star / recruit high hopes fantasy team. No shooting from the co-point guards, shooting everywhere else
Reece!!
Curbelo
Isaac squared
Fardaws Aimaq

5 out, driving lanes for days. Dunn and Bond off the bench if we decide we want to dunk on some fools

I doubt we or anyone else will hear much about stay/go calls until maybe it leaks once decisions are made like with Carson. It’s all pretty much a circle on that end, and everything right now is dated. They’re still having player meetings and some of these could take a bit. TB even skipped the last Coach’s Corner show tonight which I can’t ever remember him doing.

Don’t know how that line up would stack versus my lineup of,
Reece
Armaan
Jalen Bridges
Jayden Gardner/Justin Lewis (if Gardner leaves)
Johni Broome

Bench
McKneely
Dontaie Allen
Will Richard
Traudt
Kadin

Redshirt
Bond
Dunn
Taine
(basically dont recruit 2023 as this is our 2023 class in the redshirts)

So, we are waiting on Igor and, to a lesser extent, Kihei? Assume Tony is doing a heavy sales job on Igor, who will get minutes next year. I know a lot of Kihei love/hate here, but at the end its going to be CTB’S usage of him that determines how we feel about him next year, particularly with the news that London is pretty firmly 2023. So, we have room for one (assuming Igor can be swayed to stay) - what’s the best fit for next year?

If Reece has the 1 all to himself next season, the following offseason may be even worse lol… I really do believe Beekman will show enough next season to be a first rounder in next years draft. But, If Clark comes back, I’m not so sure.

time to drink. Would fit perfectly in our starting lineup as a 3 and D immediate impact type between Armaan and Jayden. No one on the roster fills thats for next season (Bond and Dunn still developing) so defensive in general will still be an issue next season.

We have Hunter and Murphy in the NBA, we should have our pick of the best available 6’6-6’9 wing defenders in the portal

The only wing we have reached out to so far is Will Richard. Of course others will become available after the final 4 (cmon Justin Lewis just transfer. Shaka aint it)

Now we’ve covered our bases so that we can be disappointed either way.

Seems like a perfect fit. That 6’11 wingspan for 6’5 height. That’s also Matisse Thybulle like. Im down with two matisse thybulles on the roster. One developing and the other who can contribute right away.

Again helps that he is a strong academic and was vocal about wanting UVA to recruit him (and HGN alluding to the fact he would be high major player if he had a normal recruiting cycle). Don’t like that every day it seems like more schools are reaching out to him. High ceiling skill wise.

No chance on Shareef. And wouldn’t he have to sit out a year since he has already transferred once?

Oh so news broke about London being in 2023 for sure? That’s a long time to wait and *not be swayed by another team.

I’m surprised Liberty and UNC Charlotte haven’t offered him giving similar systems and the coaching tree. I’m sure TB would put in a good word with his former assistants.

6 months shorter than Kyle Guy’s commitment length. Similar national ratings as well. Eventually y’all are going to have to just accept good news.

Lol those are good points. I have this weird case of PTSD for some odd reason. First step- him committing and then maybe I’ll back off the ledge.

How the hell are we going to fit 6 transfer additions into one spot? NIL to fund walk-on schollies for Patrick Baldwin Jr?

I didn’t think we’d have interest. Plus doesn’t he have a heart or other health issue? I mostly wanted to go for the lame Clash joke.

Fair enough. Didn’t know about heart issue but see he got surgery when he was at UCLA and then had a foot injury this year at LSU limiting him to just ten games

If Kihei leaves, does one of the transfers need to be a backup point guard or a 2 with a good handle???

I think from what we have seen in terms of reach outs, probably a guard who can start besides armaan and Reece but also play the 1 a little when Reece is on the bench. Like how the natty team had kihei guy and Jerome all on the floor together with no guards off the bench, and Kihei or Jerome just took over pg duties when the other was off the floor.

Am I miscounting?
18-Clark, Stattmann, Caffaro [Key]
19-Shedrick [Woldo, Hauser] (Morsell, McKoy)
20-Beekman [Murphy] (JAR, McCorkle)
21-Murray, Milicic [Franklin, Gardner]

Yeah, that’s my bad. Meant just ‘19 & ‘20 excluding transfers. Albeit looks like we will lose half (1) of the ‘21 class.

So basically 2/3 of first year recruits transferred out after two or fewer years in the program over the last two years (and when/if Igor leaves, we can extend that to three years).

So back to portal positivity. We need to hit the portal harder rather than reaching for international prospects or guys we know that will need a year or two of development (and may not pan out - based on recent history) to play.

From a transfer perspective, we’ve done very well over the last few years.
