Dont remind me. Anyone know if Traudt is gonna scrimmage this weekend? If not do we just forfeit the season?
Yes and yes.
Huh.
Clark being preseason 2nd team All-ACC in 2021 would be logical to anyone.
He was the top vote-getter for the third-team the previous season, and three points from being tied with Markell Johnson for second team.
Roach didn’t even earn enough points to be HM All-ACC in 2022. (Maybe K didn’t nominate him; I don’t know. But Clark preseason second-team in 2021 makes a helluva lot more sense than Roach preseason first-team this year.)
Fish is better than a guy who is going to be in the 2K point club after the first 5 trips down court this year. Interesting.
I wasn’t at the BW scrimmage so have not seen Traudt play. We keep hearing from our LRA and STL professional prognosticators, though, that Traudt is not likely to play much this year because of the competition in the front court. Seems like Tony kind of hinted at this as well in recent interviews with his patience needed comments about the first years and so many opportunities in front of them next year and beyond. I’m assuming you disagree and are counting on Traudt to beat out his competition enough to carve out a significant role this year? If so, that would either indicate a disappointing performance by our veterans or a Hunter-like emergence that takes the team to another level.
I think his play at the scrimmage aligned with some of the buzz he’s built. He was better than BVP (I think he has more inside game too but was matched up with Kadin a lot of the game) and his floor spacing is vital.
And he’s more big than I thought. A legit 6-10 with some meat on the bones, was holding his own vs Kadin in the post even with fouls
The way he was moving defensively is what gives me the most optimism, aside from the 3 point shooting of course. I figured he’d be much slower on hedges/rotations at this point and would get bullied in the post more than he did. Fouls will be an issue but if he can stay fundamentally sound in the packline as a 1st year that’s a huge development.

Fouls aren’t an issue for a guy that plays 20min a game… no such thing as foul trouble
Traudt was 4-5 from three. Vander Plas was 3-4. They should both earn time as guys who can stretch the floor from the “big” position(s). But Vander Plas’ experience and his shooting ability also allow Bennett and staff to bring Traudt along slowly and really pick their spots to help confidence, etc. — if that’s the way they want to do it.
Vander Plas also did well finishing around the rim and ran the floor on a break, beating his man to the rack with a layup.
That layup was over Clark … not telling of how a 4 can finish
I just scrolled through 400 posts. Other than Duke and UNC, and some random NCST guy who won’t be that good, is there anything I missed?
He had two layups.
But, yeah, any jab at Clark will do for you.
Yeah don’t get me wrong I like BVP, he looked solid though a bit Hauser-ish defensively (not athletic enough to guard wings, not strong enough to guard bigs). He seems like the kind of player who can heat up in an instant and win you a couple games, sort of gives me Luke Hancock vibes in that regard. But I don’t see BVP and Traudt playing a lot of minutes together, their strengths and weaknesses are a bit too redundant so it might go to who gives us the biggest defensive impact. Strictly going off what I saw in the scrimmage, my money would be on Traudt winning that battle.
Would have said the same if it were over Beekman or Poindexter or Guy
Ok.
I definitely wouldn’t expect them to play together. But I wouldn’t bank on Traudt getting more minutes than Vander Plas over the first dozen or so games, in light of the fact that both can stretch a defense, but one has proven experience, and that Bennett’s default mode is experience over raw, untested talent.
Even in the first dozen I think it’ll be situational, for example against a team like Houston we’re gonna need as much athleticism on the court as possible so that matchup likely favors Traudt. BVP has more experience at the college level which will probably get him the nod at least in the first couple games, but both are new to the packline. I also think Traudt’s size will allow him to play more easily along with Gardner, who is probably gonna log at least 30 mpg at the 4.
