Pre-season 2022

Agreed but I think it may have already become a thing. I had to rewind the BW scrimmage video where J.Willy was mic’ed up and called him Fish :man_facepalming:t2:

I think this point is perhaps not getting enough attention.
Traudt looked great, but if his foul rate is even vaguely close to what he’d do in games, even if he started he’d be hard pressed to play more than 20mpg. He’d be on the bench with 2 fouls by the first break in many games.
Let him play a few minutes at a time to get into the flow and sort some things out. By season’s end I think he’ll be logging 20 mpg and will start next year.

HooDat has magic JWilly controlling mojo?

Tbh I see Traudt being more of a threat to Caffaro’s minutes than BVP’s minutes.

I would hope someone on this board could get back channel info on the Maryland scrimmage or be allowed to sneak into JPJ… I don’t think they have ever posted stats or videos from any of their scrimmages in the past. It was last year or the year before that we heard we dominated Georgetown but no real details beyond that.

Well, we already know what Fred’s (oh so predictable) narrative will be for this season. Should be another fun one in that respect.

They accidentally posted the pic of the Jumbotron before they realized it.

Oh, that’s right.

I would agree for many of the team’s games but not against Michigan, Duke, or UNC at a minimum. I think Tony’s going to stick with Shedrick/Caffaro against the big men on those teams rather than throwing Traudt out to guard a 7’1” dude especially with all of the fouls we heard about in the B-W game.

Totally agree. I think Caffaro will play some when we go against guys with true big centers. But otherwise think we could see Traudt take a lot of those minutes with Caffaro specializing in spot minutes against Dickinson, Bacot, Lively, etc.

Kind of interesting/random: Vecenie puts Jayden Gardner at #9 on the wing list in college hoops, as a “power wing”. In this list, Sam is ranking college players on college effectiveness, not draft stock.

Link is $$

He’s doing 3 lists - guards, wings, and bigs. No UVa guard made his list of 20, but he said in response to a comment that he’s “not really a Kihei fan” but that Reece was within next 7 guys. Bigs tomorrow, I think.

The problem with that is it lets those big guys rest on defense and save all their energy for offense - it’s why Bacot could play 38 minutes last year against us - he only had to play offense all game.
Make him guard Traudt and BVP and wear him out.

Yeah, need to make UNC bigs guard on the perimeter. See, for example, the tape of Kessler calling out a screen at the very moment his teammate was hitting the deck from the contact.

I was going to say, Using Papi to counter traditional bigs is what the other teams want us to do. It lets them keep their traditional bigs in the game without having to guard on the perimeter, which puts them in awkward positions where they pick up fouls on slow rotations and also are pulled away from the basket so they cant rebound or rim protect as well as they can.

A reason why Huff and Hauser was such a huge mismatch for Bacot Sharpe Kessler. I think for UNC the best front court pairing is going to be BVP Traudt. It gives Bacot nowhere to hide. He can hide defending Jayden with his size and he can hide defending Kadin since he really isn’t a post up presence (they hid Manek on Kadin last year and put Bacot on Jayden who wasn’t a hard guard for him with his size.). BVP and Traudt would mean open lanes for Reece and Kihei for DAYS.

Yep, yup, yes. It also pulls Bacot, Dickerson, whomever out of the paint and opens up driving lanes and drive/dish opportunities for our guards. Also keeps the aforementioned bigs off the boards

Timestamped. On this Kihei drive, you see Bacot away from the rim stuck in no man’s land cause he doesn’t know whether to help on Kihei’s blow by or stick with Huff on the perimeter.

Haha, watch what happens to Hauser and Huff on the very next play on defense.

edited: Sorry, very next play on defense!

I was so surprised when Hauser and Huff ended up out rebounding that UNC front court. Was my biggest concern going into that game.

Their bigs spent the entire game chasing around, being stuck in no man’s land trying to defend the paint and then run out to slow closeout Huff and Hauser on the 3pt line.

During the scrimmage what was interesting was that both Dunn and Bond were each at one point subbed in to guard Kadin at the 5. Might be something to watch.

Watching opening night NBA, Ive seen both Grant Williams and Larry Nance Jr play the 5. Heck Anderson played some 5 for the nets in the Bubble year. Why not Bond and Dunn.
