Pre-season 2022

Really? Nobody has a response to this? I am appalled by the maturity on this board.

Jeff White’s media day rehash, plus some news about Papi. He will miss the Monmouth game to play in Argentina’s game against DR. The last time Argentina played DR, they needed another face mauler and really missed Papi’s skill there. I assume Papi will be mauling in the NC Central game.

I wish we could start with a weekend game. I’m ready for some Friday night HOOS

Always liked it when a Friday night game lined up with a home football game. Great weekend vibes.

His takeaways from the recent scrimmages against Maryland and UConn?

“I think that we’re going to be a really, really good team,” Vander Plas said. “We’ve got a lot of depth, a lot of guys hitting shots, a lot of guys stepping up and playing really good team defense. There’s a lot of things that we obviously still need to work on and will continue to work on as the season starts up with games, but there are a lot of things to look forward to.”

just saw that Monday night has the women playing at 5 followed by the men at 9. that’s really cool - i’m sure it’s logistically challenging for the JPJ staff but worth it every now and then. if they’re smart, they’ll try to get the student section at both (they should just offer them dinner if they stay inbetween games… pizza, etc.)

In the second game of a doubleheader at JPJ, Bennett’s team opens the season, his 14th at Virginia, against North Carolina Central at 9 p.m. Monday. (The UVA women’s team hosts George Washington at 5 p.m.)

Good piece by St Lou:

Now my nit: He joins a long distinguished tradition of discussing the defensive rebounding struggles last year without mentioning how relatively unathletic and severely undersized our core 6 were. Here again are my apparently controversial takes on hoops:

  • Height, size, length, and athleticism are important in hoops! (our defensive and rebounding struggles last year were mostly resulting from a structural issue, not an experience, continuity, effort, or focus issue)
  • Perimeter shooting is good! (so play more shooters!)
  • If you like basketball, one thing you might enjoy is watching it! (so stream overseas trips and the B/W game)
  • One thing that makes basketball players better is playing basketball! (so minimize redshirts, and play a longer rotation, within certain reasonable parameters)

My biggest issue going into the season is that it hasn’t started yet. Give me some hoops

Good clip here of Jayden and Armaan failing to “focus” on defensive rebounding.

Carolina the greatest college team ever at going over the back and it not being called. But you are right, our guys gotta be tougher there and grab it with 2 hands
