Recruiting-High Stakes September

Kaufman’s 5 Purdue Virginia UNC Indiana and Indiana State.

Only interview I’ve seen is with the Indiana 247 site. Honestly it didn’t come off as flattering. He pretty much says he preferred the UNC campus. Easier to get around he says.

Not flattering for IU or UVA?

UVA. it wasn’t much. Just said that he liked the UNC campus better. Joked about having to get a map to get around grounds.

Whatever, Trey. I have degrees from both places. I’ll take the grounds over their campus all day long. I almost punched my Dad when he told me he thought their campus was prettier than the grounds.

C’mon man, he doesn’t want to go to UNC. We own them.

But they do a better job developing bigs. Though we do a better job with wings. Sorta depends on how he views himself

Sounds like he prefers wing with the DeAndre Hunter development comparison.

I took my degree over 45 years ago. That was before the development of the north end of the Grounds. Even then, though, getting around was tough. And, parking was comparatively easy then, and it was still a nightmare. I can’t imagine trying to navigate UVa today with just a map. A visitor really does need a guide. Preferably, a guide and a bicycle. I had really hoped someone not connected with the Athletic Department (University Guides?) could have shown them around the school.
While I know it was an IU guy conducting the interview, it did sort of remind me that there was a reason Indiana has been seen as a clear favorite for Kaufman for a very long time.

The line about the relationship with the players and coaches being the most important factor argues that Indiana is in the drivers seat with little to nothing we can do about it.

What’s a map?

Of the aspects most important to him mentioned in the link I think we lead in winning and player development. Behind Indiana and Purdue in comfort level with staff and players (due to Covid) and maybe only ahead of UNCheat in playing time opportunity. Jabri, Justin, Trey and Kadin all compete for playing time at the 3 or 4.

Is Kedrick a portmanteau of Kadin Shedrick? :upside_down_face:

In fairness, UNC probably had to keep the campus simple. The cartography classes were fake too.

At UNC he was told not to worry about “academic” buildings as no map would ever be needed for any basketball player to find those.

Maybe an Escalade with GPS makes it easier to get around than on University Transit system.

But agree with @73CAV Grounds is crazy hard to figure out and get around especially if you have awful sense of direction like me. Rugby Rd at night to Tuttle always passed through the Dell for me. Was only way I knew

To be fair, he’s right about navigability of UNC versus UVA campuses. Not to mention you don’t have to go to class at UNC, which makes getting around even easier.

The bad news is that IU and Purdue have an established relationship with him and we’re playing catch-up. The good news is If he’s talking about development and winning, UVA trumps the other three right now. I really think Kaufman and UVA are a perfect match. Hope he sees that.

Tuttle ruled! Was there another way from Rugby to Tuttle besides the Dell?

If you know please tell me. Early first year I knew Tuttle to Dell. Tuttle to UHall. Tuttle to Slaughter. Anytime someone took me to Rugby I had to find the Dell to get home. hahahaha. No maps needed. Oh and Tuttle to Byce Psych was easy I think
