Oh and Tuttle to Scott Stadium and Bryant Hall of course
I was in the Tuttle beach suite in 1974-5. Easiest way to Rugby was through the back of the old dorms, down to the Dell, cross Emmet, up the hill (now the parking building) to Newcomb and then cross University. I could remember getting there, but getting home from Rugby was often a less than conscious act.
shit I thought we invented Tuttle beach in 1989! We need @DurtyNellys to start an separate chat on UVa related nostalgia. Like that chicken wing spot / Arbys (i think) on that intersection headed to UHall. Italian Villa et alia
Hardees?
Fun thing for me was/has been going back when my daughter was there from 2010-15 (even now as she is lucky enough to still live in the 'ville). Tuttle beach was fun - we were basically in charge of music as we would drag the massive speakers outside on nice days. Coolers were full (legal age was 18 for beer). NO disco! Good times, good times.
The chicken wing spot was BW3. Sometimes I’d park there and get a shot of tequila so I could say I was a customer before games. Italian Villa’s original location met a wrecking ball but they moved down to road bear Bodos.
We used to live at Cavalier in during holidays. We ate at the Villa 5 times per day and I can still taste the awful but free water from there. Food was unreal
There was a restaurant/bar named the Library near the old Villa and the basement was named the Stacks which was a preferred drinking spot as I could truthfully report to my parents I had spent a great deal of time in the Stacks. At some point I ceased to eat anywhere other than Food of All Nations takeout.
wow. what year was Foods of All Nations started?
76 or 77 I think. Rare roast beef, double Muenster cheese and hot mustard on an onion roll heated was the go to. Cost less than $2. Littlejohns opened around then as well and I could spread my $5 per day meal money around and even leave a 50 cent tip.
It’s been around for all of my 44 years.
Assuming these guys can show themselves in a variety of uniforms (i.e., they’ve played for a lot of teams), seems interesting tho perhaps accidental that the uniform–orange and white–in Kaufman’s post looks similar to UVa’s. I’m obviously looking for anything that provides hope ![]()
Yup, Hardee’s. I lived right behind that Hardee’s at Wahoo West second and third year. I saw lots of craziness go down late night in that joint. And Wahoo West was a complete dump, but provided great access to UHall. I think the studs in my apartment walls were on 36’ centers.
We used to walk to that Hardees on Friday’s from STAB middle school when I was a kid.
@DurtyNellys when did the Villa move, and how did I miss that?
About a year and a half ago they tore it down and the Cavalier Inn.
Damn did not realize I’ve been gone that long. Was on grounds for the Va Tech game last year but only went to through the Corner and the Lawn.
Remember having lunch at the Italian Villa after the USC football game my boy was so sick he passed out in the booth.
Well, as long as we’ve ventured far beyond the bounds of a recruiting discussion, just a few memories: Lupo’s, Refugee Schnitzel House, University Cafeteria, The Mouse Trap, Poe’s, a forgotten pizza place near the 29 bypass which was convenient to the New Dorms and always had newspapers printed in Cyrillic (Archie’s?), Sarge’s, College Inn (and Dot Thacker), and The Glass Hat and The Castle.
Corey does a lot of great work. However, I’m not so sure that I agree that UVA needs a huge class this year. I feel like it’s a bit of an overstatement given our current talent level. Obviously we want to keep talent coming in this year, but that phrasing just drives up the anxiety level
I honestly found that article very reassuring simply because of how misinformed it was
Time will tell who was misinformed. Hopefully you are right that a respected and well connected recruiting expert was misinformed.
