I agree with the lack of consensus on this. I have no idea
Will Bond and Dunn be dunkin on mfs heads next year?

The “yes he’s coming back” folks have surged into the lead…
Question for those of you who are “No’s” – or anyone who wants to weigh in: Why is Reece not coming back?
Outside of the common sense people that tell me why he is coming back I still say “why would he come back”.
If he’s not projected 2nd round, what’s the point of staying in? Is the general concern that he will not want to return to an unproven roster now that his friends are all gone?
I couldn’t find a case recently of a guy who got drafted and that happened, but did find guys who were undrafted, signed two-ways, and then were waived before or partway during the season, leading to the G-League affiliate signing them directly. I think the 500k gets pro-rated in those cases. Examples from this year are Lester Quinones, Alondes Williams.
I feel like opinions are mostly split into these two camps: “Why would he come back” and “Why would he go.” It’s like the strongest case for choosing A or B is the lack of a strong case for doing the opposite.
Yea something like that. And with opinions you can talk yourself into the one you want to be the outcome for sure
I know this shows I’ve become old, but I think for Reece, getting the degree is a VERY strong case to come back (unless he will get it this spring or summer). Everyone says, “you can always get your degree later”, but then how many cases do we have of anyone actually doing it? None that I’m aware of. Troy Murphy wound up getting a degree from Columbia after a ten year NBA career, but he’s a dork.
Meaning everyone who got drafted and got a 2-way wound up having a full year 2-way? (That was my guess).
Yup, I’m pretty sure it gets pro-rated somehow.
Playing next to McKneely could also be a great showcase for Reece if uva got a solid frontcourt too. McKneely + Reece would be the most dynamic backcourt the hoos have had since the championship and if uva locks down Minor + Jennings + another shooter it looks like a really fun team to hold the keys to.
And I think some NBA scouts would be able to forgive Reece a bit more than the normal old prospect if he went and averaged 12, 6, and 5 next year alongside a real quality shooting guard
But I still think he is gone
I wonder if adding Minor would move the needle on Reece returning. Probably wishful thinking
That’s why I (very hesitantly) voted yes, he comes back. I think his decision is going to be based on life reasons as much as basketball ones. He has to get better to make the NBA, but where does he want to do that? If he’s “done with college,” there you go. If he likes it here and wants to get his degree, okay then. (I’m also willing to be convinced one way or the other by a $ argument but I don’t understand the likely numbers.)
This is all assuming he projects as no better than a late 2nd rounder.
Just going to self-reply, I think Reece also stands in a unique position where if he and IMac are the main 1-2 with a guy like Bond or a transfer at the 3, then he has a totally different opportunity to showcase himself than the last 3 years. But if the plan is to run Harris, Reece, McKneely all in the starting lineup, then I get why Reece would want to be done because he has been there and done that. But him getting down hill off of bruising Minor/Jennings screens and whipping it to McKneely for 3s would be beautiful stuff
If Reece comes back, he’s basically heading back with a new roster. May not be ideal initially, but I look at it this way. Most think UVa will be a work in progress. But what if he comes back and is the player that helps makes the pieces work on the floor. He gets an additional year to work on parts of his game needing work, but could become the leader evaluators want to see. I think that is one angle the staff could use to entice him back.
Honestly though, I see both sides for him.
I guess my question is if Reece doesn’t get a 2nd round guarantee, are we still expecting him gone? Or is the reason everyone is so pessimistic is because they think he will get that guarantee?
That’s what I was trying to get at with the poll (I’m not quite sure WHY the pessimistic folks are pessimistic)
Me neither! And I find myself pessimistic as a result!! BUT I DONT KNOW WHY
In all seriousness why would he leave if he’s not looking like a 2nd rounded (and no recent mocks have him there)? Genuinely curious
