🤔 Remembering some guys

We went to team camp at JMU when I was in high school during Lefty’s time there. One day we were walking out from the Convocation Center and Lefty overheard one of the kids say he was going back to the dorm and order a pizza. Lefty reached into his gym shorts and pulled out a huge wad of bills in a money clip. Hey kid, you want me to buy you a pizza? Kid reaches out…Lefty just smacks him on his head with that wad of cash. Get outta here, kid.

The Price brothers don’t fit any recruiting stereotype, at least not one that college coaches look for. I remember Mark Price averaging like 20.5 ppg as a freshman. They may have been somewhat like Tony Bennett as players.

Although I graduated from UVa, I was a fan of every ACC school (actually their high top Converse and socks) growing up because this was before cable TV sports existed, so it was Jefferson-Pilot twice a week. UNC was on a lot more than any other ACC school, at least until Terry Holland arrived. :grinning: Terry was up against a lot more than Tony Bennett was, because UVa’s image with African-Americans was non-existent, University Hall was small, etc.

Is UVa men’s basketball right now (as of today) where UVa was when Holland took over? I hope not, but if it is there are some similarities that I can see.

Keith Jennings went to high school an hour north of Charlottesville. He wanted to come to UVa. I guess UVa thought he was too small at 5-7. A member of the UVa basketball staff fixed him up with East Tennessee State, where he was an All-American and went on to play in the NBA :grinning: for the Golden State Warriors for 3 seasons!

Has Craig Robinson ever been back to Charlottesville since he graduated? Never read or heard anything about him since then. He was a good player.

Monte Towe never once dribbled the ball in a college game before shooting a free throw. Every time the ref handed him the ball, he immediately shot the free throw. He was an All-American at N.C. State when he was a junior. There must be a video of this somewhere online.

Why is Perrantes playing over Anderson. Did we not watch the NIT run? Justin Anderson can do things no one else on the roster can do. What is Perrantes doing out there, just passing the ball?

UVA first year Hess was behind the Duke basket and was STEAMING at the end of that game. Nearly blind rage when Wojo made those free throws.
