I assume we’ll hunt for transfers. But it’s also about who will come in with the roster looking that.
IMac, Rohde, Bond, Buchanan pencilled in for big minutes and big minutes allocated between Bliss and Harris.
Maybe there is a stretch 4 who is interested but maybe not

Leon Cofie Buchanan Robinson is probably one of the best front court rotations Tony has had from a pure talent stand point

I think if we just lose Groves, Minor, and Beekman we definitely don’t go in the portal. If we lose those three plus Dunn(or any other unexpected departure), we probably do go in the portal. I do agree you don’t necessarily have to go portaling even if Dunn does go pro. I suspect they still do though.

Yeah, if Dunn comes back I don’t think we need anything. But the odds of that happening seem to be shrinking with each game…but that’s ok. Obviously the better Dunn plays, the better the team is, and this team has a pretty high ceiling right now.

Yep. And we’re recruiting at a level in which we can afford that. Next guys are in the pipeline.
I think the staff is really just trying to avoid having to find a bulk of their team and production from the portal.
They would rather use the portal to supplement when we have a need, like if Dunn went pro. That’s exactly what we want to use the portal for. Not to replace an entire team.

I’ve been talking about the need for a transfer big for a while. Blake’s explosion helps alleviate that need, but Dunn’s performance cementing Draft position brings it right back.
You present a roster that has:
- Harris and Bliss at the 1
- Rohde and Isaac returning on the wings with Elijah and Bond off the bench
- Buchanan at the 5 with promising rookie backups…
That’s a sweet lineup for a transfer 4 to step into.
Re: Bond at the 4, I’m going to need to see him thrive in that role against real opponents before I’ll consider him starting in that role next year. So far he’s been okay against mid majors. When we played Florida he barely saw the floor.
Give me a 3 and D guy as the transfer 4.

I think another Groves type would also work. If Dunn goes, I’ll be surprised if we don’t try and get a 4 (and one that can shoot)

Cofie might be that potential stretch 4. Not sure about his 3 point shot. Haven’t seen much film.

Next season will be one of the last seasons the one-year rental market will be good for us, right? Grad transfers are easy because they can transfer without waiver (and the whole admissions thing seems easier to work, right?). But those numbers of grad transfers had to have been pumped up by the COVID year, right?
Correct in that next year will be the last big year for COVID transfers.

Okay smart guy, tell me Dunn could put up numbers like this. I’ll wait.
And I’ll even admit this was against Wofford, so these numbers might be a little inflated – but even so, I think I’ve made my point. The guy put up a triple 4 (defensive rebounds, total rebounds, and fouls) in only 23 minutes. You can have Dunn. I’ll take Beran.

I think we took Groves commitment before Beran even visited if I’m not mistaken. Were only going to take 1 and groves took the spot.
I’d take Beran over Minor though… but Groves shooting is going to be huge for this team

I think we slow played scheduling Beran’s visit to make sure Groves got in first. I liked Beran but Groves has so much more value for us. Especially since Blake is playing real minutes.

Clearly we should’ve released Dunn to transfer to VT, so we’d have had room to take both Groves and Beran in the Portal.

At the same time though I’m not sure we needed a second guy like that. I do think “what if” about that certain P6 starting big man that HGN alluded to in the VIP thread awhile back. The one we had a great shot at if he hit the portal but he never did(Iykyk)…. That one would’ve been a great one to have with Blake and Groves.
