🏀 Ryan Odom Transition

With the caveat of focusing on the circumstances rather than the X’s and O’s or knowing much about the specific person taking over, in this scenario of following a legend, I feel like this is a best case hire. Enough connections to stimulate the moneyed class. But not so many connections there is an outsized sense of loyalty. I don’t know if Bilbo will succeed. But I believe he will have all the resources possible to succeed and we will also be in a strong position to move on in 3 years if he is. It succeeding. Best you can hope for after a program GOAT retires

Interesting that he thinks Odom was the guy all along & also that he says we have a ton more NIL $ to work with than we have had.

Sounds like someone will need to create a new parody account. Fauxdom, perhaps? Tryin’ Ryan?

(Thanks for the suggestions, ChatGPT, because I’m not that creative)

The VCU AD seems…competent. Any chance he’d come on up to cville to replace Carla or is he a VCU lifer type? I could google it myself, but I won’t.

Edit: he went to BC.

Dr. Richard Sander (current AD at ETSU) started that clause when Jeff Capel was the VCU coach. The AD that replaced him, Norwood Teague, continued that tradition with Anthony Grant and Shaka Smart and now their current AD, Ed McLaughlin keeps doing it as well.

It’s a smart clause. The coach doesn’t really have any reason to negotiate it out (what does it matter to them) and I can’t imagine it would stop the next school from trying to hire the coach. So it’s a free-ish way to get a home game they wouldn’t otherwise been able to.

I don’t claim to be an expert in AD administration but it’s refreshing to see a school actually get some value with a contract vs. just, say, signing very long term contracts with absurd buyout numbers (really just guarantees) that make it impossible to fire a coach who proves to be incompetent.

Agree. Now do players.

Players are on one year deals. If they’re busts, you just don’t pick up the option on their next season. :man_shrugging:

Heh, I was trying URL names this morning to see if I could find the page before they publicized it, but didn’t factor that they would include the full title in the URL.
