🏀 Ryan Odom Transition

Maybe KG smartly asked for NIL and was denied. Hoo knows

I’m going to ask them to rename my season ticket seats to the JazznutUVA & DFresh11 Families season ticket seats.

Here’s a picture of Tom Dean and Tony Markel in case you are interested. You might be able to pick them out at a game next season!

Unfortunately they spent all their $$ on naming rights and have to sit up in the nosebleeds behind the hoop

Man… they must sit right next to me then. I’ll give them a high five in the fall!

Is that @JoeBoxley long lost twin far left?

We’re all just disciples of the PJ Hall school of curly headed fools at the end of the day

I didn’t blame Odom. But the way HGN reported it suggests (key word here) that it is probably just spin. (not only was KG offered to stay, it was a GOOD offer. Not bad. GOOD!!! Lmao)

Notice that all sources reported Griff Aldrich leaving Longwood to become AHC at UVA a few days before it happened, then that’s exactly what went down. With KG, it was always up in the air with no concrete plans at all as to what role, if any he would have on the new staff.

I’m dubious about the claim KG was offed. Maybe he was. KG is kind of a legend around here. He’s one of the guys you want to shake his hand, smile, and make small talk to as you usher him out the door instead of just telling him to GTFO.

Nobody should blame Ryan Odom. He’s the HC and can do what he wants. If I were in his position, I would have the pillars ripped off day one and have a giant wall sized poster of the Captain Phillips meme placed in the basketball office.

No, not ignoring the fact that an offer was made. But we don’t know what type of role it was or what the money was. We also don’t know Kyle’s thought process. We don’t know how their personalities meshed or didn’t mesh. There’s a lot out there. Like I said, there were a lot of circumstances in this situation.

What sorcery is this? Did I earn a nickname?

The Jeff White article from this week suggests that mbb and wbb both have GMs, at least that’s what I take “the process for men’s basketball was delayed due to the coaching staff transition, but a similar structure is in place for UVA’s men’s and women’s basketball programs” to mean.

I thought the basketball GM spots were officially still open, and that’s why Ralph, Staples, etc were angling for them. Is there a reason why those roles would be kept in the shadows if they’ve been filled? Have they been filled?

Having a Director of Analytics is new to Virginia, right?

I’ve long harbored suspicions that Carpenter essentially filled that role before becoming an assistant (maybe still did during that), but I dunno if that’s actually true.

The Tuesday signing!!!

Yeah, I think you’re right about that. Still, having it be an official position is interesting/exciting.

Agree with that. Titles matter now

Blast from the past for me. Matt Hart was a stud at DIII Hamilton; I work at (conference rival) Middlebury and saw him play a ton. Then he transferred to GW and did really well there . . . he was the most significant DIII-to-DI transfer until Duncan Robinson left Williams for Michigan.

As to Kyle Guy since everyone speculating and getting worked up. He might be looking for a player - coach position on a pro team where he makes player money but also gets coaching experience.

I personally think it is not clear if he has the head space for coaching. Time will tell if he continues to work his way into this field and advances.

Lots of great players have been successful as well as failures at coaching. Not sure there is much of a correlation

Idle observation: On the team IG account, the post announcing Ahmad Thomas has the third highest number of comments on the staff, behind Theus and Aldrich (who had 1 week head starts). I don’t have a take, just noting that it’s a lot of pop for what can be a kinda anonymous role.
