11/3 - Rider (H)
11/7 - NC Central (H)
11/11 - Hampton (H)
11/21 and 11/23 - Greenbrier Tipoff (South Carolina / Butler / Northwestern)
11/28 - Queens (H)
12/20 - Maryland (H)
12/22 - American (H)
TBD - SEC Challenge (A-probable)
Weâll have ~12 non-conf games with the ACCâs move back to an 18 game league slate.
So far weâve got five cupcakes and, with the SEC Challenge, four Power Conference opponents (1 away, 2 neutral, 1 home).
Weâve also got a contracted date at Charlotte as well but may be trying to buy our way out of it.
Still 2-3 more games to schedule. Preferably no more than one more home buy game, rest either neutrals or away or additional P5 teams.
My biggest worry is that we end up like SMU this year, who had a nice ACC finish and overall record, but didnât get the Q1 wins they needed to get off the Bubble down the stretch. Iâd like to go into ACC play with at least one Q1 win, preferably two. Our SEC Challenge game will likely be a Q1 opportunity, but none of the Greenbrier opponents are sure-thing Top 50 teams. Maryland (at JPJ) is similarly borderline Q1/Q2.
Whereâd you get the dates for Hampton/NCCU/AU?
Daily Progress published them a couple weeks ago.

Thanks,
Also, I thought I heard the NCAA might move up the 32 game limit to this year which would give us six more games rather than five, but I canât seem to find that anywhere so may be imagining it.
Iâd be totally ok with this. If these guys are getting paid like pros, why not add a game (or two, or five) to the regular season schedule.
Looks like itâs actually 26-27, but I Norlander saying he wouldnât be surprised if we got to 35 in the coming few years.
Field of 68 interview with Odom. On a quick scan of the transcript, I donât really see any news. And no roster talk at all. But still perhaps worth a listen:
On 1.5 speed with Odom is best
Heâs got a very flat delivery style but he seems like a decent interview. A few minor things:
- Priority this summer will be connecting the team to each other and then to UVa
- Style of play will depend on guys but heâd like to play like he did at VCU
- Noted that theyâd likely have to rely on the portal heavily again next year, but plan is to develop continuity through HS recruiting
I had assumed as such based off of how they approached the frontcourt, but that does answer a question.
Re-posting HGNâs scholarship chart for ease of reference:
Assuming De Ridder, and then assuming him and GrĂźnloh are 1-year guys, I think the best case scenario is getting to 9-10 players before portal adds:
- Retaining everyone else who can return (6 guys, counting Lang as a scholarship player)
- Landing a 4-man 2026 class
Now, not all of those players are gonna be rotation quality in 2026-27, so I think youâre looking at maybe 3 rotation player additions through the portal, before any attrition?
We spent a total of 610k in guarantees in 23-24 for 6 buy games so this 95k is probably about average. We also hosted TAMU in the ACC-SEC challenge, so I doubt we paid them. We got 135k for presumably @Memphis and probably Florida in Charlotte and those 2 games in that Ft Myers tournament.
Imagine being a small school with no football team like St Peterâs or something and these games basically fund your entire athletic department.
Rider and UMES? Damn, we are getting spoiled over here
Minor thing, but we could play some buy games in the 250+ category without aiming squarely for the few teams in the nation that will be 350+.
Those things help a bit on some of the metrics. Like WAB, Iâd think
Relying on one of you nerds to watch and relay all important info here. Thanks.
Nerds? Paging @haney
has de Ridder as 4th and Johann as 13th. Top two guys play in same league as Johann. Sanada is even a on3 top 25 recruit/5 star in their system for the class of 2025 even though heâs a 21 year od.
Haines Steinbach is legit/Similar stats to Johann (Johann the better blocker) but Steinbach more a brusier back to the basket guy.
Also this ranking is very analytic heavy rather than eye test and what not. but still has some value
Mostly fluff. OF COURSE Roth went there with UMBC.
A few tidbits. Sounds like we may be working to schedule a non con game against an ACC opponent - Clemson obv, unless we are working to play someone twice. (In Charlotte would be great pls)
Roth mentioned Dallin Hall then ask Coach who else might be under the radar excited about - said Malik of course and GrĂźnloh. Mentioned the depth of the team and feeling good about every positionâŚ
Did mention âinternational guysâ and older âinternational guysââŚhmmm
Fun style for fans, will push and get out in transition
