Iām aware he was offered but not what he was offered at Nevada.
Be happy with Odom. The season hasnāt even begun. His recruiting has been A considering his start from scratch. He has won everywhere he has gone. The coaching staff did nothing special last year to warrant accolades in the absence of Bennett. I donāt get the negativity. UVA basketball stock clearly is rising as compared to last year
100%! Just really like Kyle and think he will be a top assistant soon!
Well said WorldTraveler. I understand the hesitation and, of course, difficult emotions in light of Coach TBās sudden retirement, but the negativity is baffling to me.
KG said as much in a podcast. He felt like everything he knew about UVA, except the championship banner, was being erased. (paraphrasing but not far off from an exact quote). He also said that this was not Odomās fault and thought Odom was a good person. The timing and circumstances werenāt right. If KG has these (understandable) feelings about whatās happening, it wouldnāt be a good fit for him to stay. Thatās basically what he implied.
Damn where do I find said podcast
Could be wrong but this think is what is being referred to: Spotify
Edit-
link isnāt working but One Shining Podcast from April 21st
I donāt think anyone should be surprised that Bennett era guys may not exactly feel the warm fuzzies about the program at the moment. I donāt blame that on Odom - itās hard to take over for a legend and in general normally think a clean break is best in these situations, as much as I wouldāve liked to have kept Kyle and Zay. Just hope that eventually everyone can come together again.
I think itās this. From April 21. Fast forward a bit to get to the KG interview.
Everything about the transistion after CTB falls right at his own feet. He pulled the rug out without any transistion plan.
Didnāt Odom keep the pillars up and add one? Seemed like a pretty big nod toward not tearing down what CTB built.
I vaguely remember reading that. In terms of respecting the legacy of Tony Bennett and his values, I think Odom is all in. But in terms of coaching and style of play, itās only natural that Odom will take a torch to how Bennett did things. He cleaned house on everyone involved in coaching and running operations, aside from Coach Curtis and the trainer. Itās his right, and we want him to do things his way, instead of pretending to be someone else. Thereās nothing wrong with that.
Yes although it wasnāt specific to keeping the 5 Pillars. Odomās core values (or whatever term he uses) happened to be the 5 Pillars and accountability.
It is nice symmetry and fun to keep the pillars around since they clearly mean a lot to many Hoo fans.

Just crossed my mind watching this, how awkward must practices be. Like 20 staff and itās just them coaching Elijah Gertrude with Carter Lang rebounding
Not sure if this is the right place for this but sitting here in the Charleston airport, I was thinking about what we did during the dead period and how that all went down. From what weāve heard, we essentially waited until the dead period to swoop in with above market expiring offers to guys we wanted. The strategy proved phenomenally successful.
I wonder whose idea that was? And how did we determine what the right price was to be high enough to have guys shut things down immediately. I assume Griff was the architect behind it. Itās easy to say that itās easy to do that when you have a mandate to spend as much as needed, but you still have to execute. And it seems like we executed the plan really damn well.
Malik already in town maybe?

Summer session 1 started Monday! Probably more than just him!
Every day that passes where this remains our schedule (plus an SEC foe?) brings me to closer to the @USSoccer13 worry that Odom enjoys cupcakes.
While I donāt want a VT like cupcake schedule either, they had to put a lot of this in motion before the roster was final. Probably smart to air on the side of caution to allow Odom more Wās and the chance to exceed expectations in year one (and all that might come with that via national recognition , recruiting, fundraising , etc)
