He wasn’t there that long, so I’m not sure how much influence he had on his OOC schedules since they’re arranged so many years in advance. He did go 4-0 against OOC opponents in each of his 3 seasons at Vandy. He was also helped a lot by Tennessee and Kentucky being exceptionally bad and Florida being mostly bad during those years.

I’m skeptical of the idea of Franklin being a game changer for VT. Hiring a guy who just got fired from Penn State doesn’t bode well for wanting to climb to that level, imo. He did a fine job there overall during his time but it’s also Penn State, completely different level of tradition and a huge loyal fanbase.
As for recruiting, I don’t know anything…but Penn State has been taking the top VA kids my whole life. Probably will continue under their next coach. Not sure how much of that has to do with Franklin.

Other side of the coin is that your margin for error is so thin in the ACC. You get zero benefit of the doubt.

Except some years, like this one, he’ll have to win the conference championship game to make it, which isn’t easy. I mean it’s still possible we go 7-1 in conference and don’t even make the champ game. But he’ll raise their floor for sure, too good of a recruiter not to. Which is why I was hoping he’d turn them down.

I was listening to the CAVS CORNER pod this morning, they did a brief segment at the end. Justin Ferber said it best, something like: Franklin will be good for them, probably got the best available guy they could have gotten at this moment in time. But the more important thing is for UVA to worry about what UVA is doing (and avoiding the not doing stuff thing).
