I’m no expert and don’t claim to be but I just don’t see the Ty Davis hype. I get it he is a Jerome look alike but looking at stats I jus don’t see the stat lines and the wow factor like some ppl have. I could be totally wrong just my 2 cents not that it matters. There are other kids I think are far above him.
No UVA mention
For all the love here for Ty Davis, is it possible (maybe even likely) that either:
A) He’s not that into us, or
B) TB and staff have seen something we haven’t that cooled them on him
Either would explain why we’re prioritizing other PGs and he’s not mentioning us in recruiting interviews.
His name has been floating around forever now and I think it’d be way healthier for all of us to act more like Ty and the staff. They know it’s not happening…and deep down we all do too.
Never say never I guess but yeah they’ve pretty much passed on Ty Davis…and for that matter just about everybody you heard mentioned with UVA prior to April who doesn’t have a scholarship offer. The summer is for players who emerge from April forward.
He’ll be an interesting case to follow over his college career though. It would have been a done deal if Bennett wanted.
Thank you @HoozGotNext This is my favorite post in a long time, very insightful…and stirs just enough shit at the end so we have something to argue about.
There’s an old story that was once told of Dean Smith and an in-home visit he made to a very highly touted high school prospect. As I remember it, there were four people present: Dean Smith, an assistant, the recruit, and his mother. The recruit kept bossing his mother around to serve Coach Smith and his assistant, in what I gathered was a very disrespectful manner. Neither of the coaches said anything about it. They completed the visit, left, and never contacted that recruit again. Which begs the question: how does the Virginia staff vet prospects WRT to character, academics, etc? When streaming, we get a glimpse of their talent, but we know nothing about the person. We have no idea about the “fit”. Can anyone provide insight into how Coach Bennett accomplishes this? Additionally, how frequently is it this process which dissuades the staff from offering a prospect everyone here considers so worthy?
Well, I could certainly believe that story would play out the same with Tony. He is serious about the pillars and I imagine the kids he offers have to pass the eye test in that respect as well. It would really be interesting to know how many kids he took a chance on wrt the pillars.
We haven’t seen many that we can say he missed the mark.
I’m fine passing on an erratic combo guard for 2024. Would prefer a true point or steady combo.
For what it’s worth, I don’t regret passing on Austin Nunez.
Was never high on Nunez and hated that offer in real time. Nail in the coffin was watching him get lit up by Gabe Cupps and Reed Sheppard who were both playing up in 17U
No idea what Nova’s chance is here but relevant to Bliss recruitment
The 2025 Virginia Duo Nate Ament (Manassas) and Jordan Scott (Reston) had a strong weekend. Latrell is that 2026 kid who we randomly offered lol.
Interest in the 2024 group is Brandon Jennings. Not the NBA player but he’s a Richmond kid (St. Christophers) whose been balling out and I saw Williford started following him. Maybe if we cant get Bliss or Perry, he pops up as a target. Been playing very well.

Wait, what? Is Brandon Jennings Jr really, y’know Brandon Jennings, Junior?
Nah, NBA Brandon Jennings is only 33. Not impossible but I doubt it. Jennings did play at Oak Hill.
Was gonna say … I’m not that old.
Highlights from his school year. Pretty athletic. And a lefty. Moves a lot like Darius Thompson in my mind.
Not sure I like the spin rate on his shot …
He’s crafty though. Hit this nifty move on that vanderbilt commit/kid who’s an actor in that Kevin Durant apple tv show.
Would be a good guard to pair with Kon.

Reminds me of Mu it is that a reach?
He’s still just a midmajor prospect but a candidate for a summer blow up type. Although he also plays on a smaller circuit.
Do wish they had more of these events, where teams from all different leagues play against each others , during the summer.
2nd July period will be all independent events. Only 2 days though. Was a late add to the calendar after complaints. There used to be a lot more of that. Up until 4-5 years ago, there were still two 5-day weekends after the shoe circuits ended. You had a week with regional events and then Vegas week where most everybody was in Vegas in several huge tourneys.
