Spring Recruiting Thread

One last Hodge post (since he’s not even someone confirmed on our radar lol)

Apparently he was already getting recruited by Maryland before Coach Jones left the hokies for them, but Coach Jones was apparently his dad’s roommate at ODU.

Also lol at this comment. “Seems like the kind of kid who goes to Wisconsin and starts for 3 years and is a giant pain in the **** to deal with.”

I lied.

More good clips (also he’s not 19 like the comment says lol but he does turn 19 in November…so he could reclass to 2023…and redshirt).

Also I think a closer comparison is that he’s like an in-between of Traudt and Bobi Klintman.

Yeah, back when we played ODU he was a pain in our side.

I had to watch it. :grimacing: (tbh, can’t see much from this angle)

Fwiw, Hodge plays in one of the shore leagues, but wraps up to the parochial playoffs to play the other Catholic schools.

I like that his AAU team appears to encourage their players to do actual basketball things, like cut off the ball or actively relocate to open space for 3. Someone send TB the clip of the hard hedge leading to a turnover and dunk. But maybe take out the music first.

I played against Odell Hodge at UVa/Terry Holland basketball camp in summer 1987…. Laurel Park had its middle and high school teams there.

They (and he) were really good.

I would not think Rohde would be a deterrent for PG recruits. Do you think Dante Harris is? I would think from a recruit’s perspective he falls more in the “there’s another PG on the roster” instead of “I’ll need to play behind this guy for 2 years”. I think the staff could sell that Dante is a nice piece but the PG spot is open for competition.

Hodge seems to fit the bill in terms of what we are looking for - would be surprised if we don’t recruit him.

I remember his dad. Beast.

Those Hodge clips look like a UVA dude. Look at him guarding up on dudes out on the perimeter. Willingly setting screens.

What are waiting for?? Haha.

Additionally, I’m seeking some clarification. While a player cannot enter the transfer portal now, those already in the portal can still transfer with immediate eligibility. Presumably, this means a player can do so up until their new school is no longer accepting transfers for the next term. Is that correct? Furthermore, a player not in the portal can still transfer, but they would have to sit a year before becoming active. Do I have that right? As I said, just looking for some confirmation. All this talk of the portal closing seems fraught with misleading implications.

Will have to wait for someone that knows. Assume if you were/ are already in youre live and available. Would assume there is some end date on making the decision though. Unless no one wants you which sucks

Yup, the only constraint is (1) new coach’s preferences and (2) academic calendar at new school

Yup, but I guess they could apply for a waiver.

Also, grad transfers are not subject to the portal rules.

Geez, 6’8" Matthew Hodge shoots 70% from the floor.

So fundamentally sound. No wasted movement.

2024 prospect. How have we not offered this kid who looks like he was made in a lab to play at Virginia?

As of this morning, Verbal Commits shows nearly 1,750 players have entered this year’s transfer portal. Roughly, 880 of them (a smidge over 50%) have found new homes. If I am not mistaken, the past few years have seen about 40% of the players in the portal did not transfer to a new school. I don’t know how many of those also pursued professional careers, too, but I don’t think the numbers would be significant. That said, I haven’t seen any discussion in the media about what happens to those who are in the portal but don’t transfer. I imagine it would be enlightening.

Geez, 2024 6’ 8" F Matthew Hodge looks like he was built in a lab to play at Virginia.

So fundamentally sound. Love his defensive footwork, shot contesting, and his three-point stroke.

Let’s do this!

Yessir. And may even give players pause about looking for somewhere better

Chrisitian Bliss and Jase Richardson facing off right now. Box score below stream

jase #4 in white. Bliss #13 in black

Bliss is such a Perrantes/Stereotypical UVA point guard LOL

Jase is like what if Reece was a better 3pt shooter and more aggressive but not as strong a floor general and maybe not the defender Reece is. TBD

Also tried focusing on Matthew Hodge but realized it was futile. Frontcourt players are irrelevant in AAU play
